What they need
The Product Engineer for Two-Way Radio Platforms supports the senior project engineers by serving as a local technical interface for two-way radio products in Hong Kong. This role helps ensure ODM/JDM designs meet Cedar’s RF performance, regulatory, product, and manufacturing readiness requirements by reviewing vendor-provided data, performing hands-on validation of new hardware and firmware releases, supporting factory engineering teams in resolving production issues when needed, and preparing clear test results and recommendations for final review and approval by Cedar’s Chicago-based engineering team.
Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (or comparable RF/wireless product development experience).
- 2+ years of experience with radio products (e.g FRS/GMRS radios, Marine radios, DMR or other digital radio platforms, other wireless communication devices)
- Experience in RF communication systems, wireless devices, or two-way radio platforms, with demonstrated experience supporting requirements review, validation, and product readiness activities.
- Experience performing RF validation and interpreting results (e.g., sensitivity, selectivity, adjacent channel rejection, and related receiver/transmitter performance measures).
- Familiarity with Bluetooth integration in wireless devices (architecture, product requirements, test considerations, and common failure modes).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English & Mandarin, with the ability to document technical findings clearly and translate complex RF, product, and test-related details into actionable guidance for cross-functional teams.
- Able to travel internationally between U.S., China and other APAC areas .
Preferred:
- Active Amateur Radio experience (or comparable hands-on radio hobbyist experience) & knowledge of analog and digital modulation techniques (e.g., FM, FSK, TDMA, or similar)
- Experience with audio/acoustic validation tools and workflows (e.g., Listen or similar systems).
- Experience with common hardware interfaces used in embedded/wireless products (e.g., UART, SPI, I²C, and related serial interfaces).
- Experience supporting wireless regulatory certification (FCC, CE, and/or related compliance standards), including working with external test labs and preparing/maintaining technical documentation.
- Experience working with external engineering/manufacturing partners (ODM/JDM/CM), including communicating requirements, reviewing evidence, and driving issue closure.
Essential Functions
- Support the senior project engineers as a local technical liaison with ODM/JDM partners: review designs, test data, and technical tradeoffs; identify risks; and help coordinate closure on issues impacting performance, quality, cost, or schedule.
- Plan and execute RF validation to confirm conformance to specifications, including (as applicable) receiver sensitivity, selectivity, adjacent channel rejection, blocking/intermod performance, and audio/acoustic performance.
- Support conducted and radiated testing and collaborate with partners and test labs to ensure robust pre-compliance and compliance readiness.
- Support wireless regulatory certification activities and documentation, including FCC and CE compliance (and other region-specific requirements as needed), and coordinate technical input across internal stakeholders and external labs/partners.
- Collect, analyze, and document test results from internal lab work, field testing, and vendor reports; provide clear summaries and recommendations to drive decisions.
- Provide technical input to the Senior Project Engineering team and product management as needed, including feature feasibility, design-for-test considerations, UI/UX implementation feedback, and early risk identification based on ODM/JDM design reviews and validation results.
- Support quality and manufacturing readiness by helping define QC procedures (QCP), factory test approaches, and repeatable acceptance criteria tied to product requirements.
- Use lab equipment effectively (service monitor, spectrum analyzer, RF signal generator, oscilloscope, DMM, etc.) to validate performance and troubleshoot issues with partners and internal teams.
- Support legacy product sustainment as needed—root cause analysis, issue reproduction, corrective actions, and validation of fixes.
Benefits: 13th-Month Salary, Performance Bonus, Medical Insurance, 12 Days Annual Leave
