About Roam Engineering

Roam Engineering is a family-owned Western Australian company with a strong reputation for delivering quality projects. We design, supply and construct steel structures for the power transmission and telecommunications sectors, including steel poles, lattice towers and guyed masts, together with their foundations. In-house design, fabrication and construction capability, gives us control over every stage of delivery.

The role

As a Project Engineer you will support Project Managers coordinate project delivery from design through fabrication to construction. You will start by supporting Project Managers on larger projects and progressively take full ownership of small to mid-sized projects. We are looking for someone who wants to progress on a Project Management career path and is ready to work towards it.

Key responsibilities

• Review scope of works for tenders and projects, and help develop delivery methodology, programme and cost estimates.
• Coordinate design, drafting, procurement and subcontractors to meet project requirements.
• Act as the interface between engineering, the fabrication workshop and site, including shop drawing review, fabrication scheduling, galvanising and delivery.
• Plan and monitor project schedules in MS Project, and report progress to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Manage commercial aspects of your projects, including cost tracking and forecasting, variations, progress claims, and subcontract and supplier administration.
• Prepare and manage project HSEQ documentation, including management plans, SWMS, ITPs and inspection records, in line with our safety and quality management systems.
• Review subcontractor and supplier QA and HSE documentation, and attend site to monitor performance.
• Resolve technical queries and RFIs, drawing on your structural and foundation knowledge.
• Compile completion and handover documentation, including as-built records.
• Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

What we are looking for

• 5+ years in an engineering role, including at least 3 years on structural, steel or foundation construction projects. A background in either design or construction will be considered.
• A genuine ambition to move into project management, with examples of taking ownership of scope, cost or programme.
• Working knowledge of AS 2159, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS/NZS 5131 and AS/NZS 1554.
• Advanced Excel and MS Project skills.
• Strong organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A sound understanding of HSE and quality management in a construction environment.

Qualifications

Essential

• Bachelor of Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent qualification with relevant experience).
• Current driver's licence.
• Construction White Card, or the ability to obtain one.

Desirable

• CPEng/NER registration, or working towards it.
• Experience in power transmission, telecommunications or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with AS/NZS 7000 and AS 3995.
• Formal project management training.
