What they need

An established Tier 2 civil contractor is looking for an experienced Project Engineer to join its team, working on a significant water infrastructure project in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

This is an opportunity for an Engineer with a strong background in civil construction who is confident taking ownership of technical delivery, programme, quality, subcontractor coordination and commercial requirements.

Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you'll play an important role in driving project performance, overcoming construction challenges and ensuring successful project outcomes.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for key areas of project delivery, including:

  • Managing and coordinating significant sections of civil and water infrastructure works.
  • Driving short-term programmes, construction sequencing and project milestones.
  • Coordinating Site Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Managing quality assurance, inspections, ITPs and technical documentation.
  • Monitoring progress, productivity, quantities and project costs.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and resolving technical challenges.
  • Managing RFIs, variations and supporting commercial reporting.
  • Identifying construction risks and implementing practical solutions.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
  • Supporting commissioning, handover and project close-out.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Project Engineer who can hit the ground running and take genuine ownership of their responsibilities.

You'll bring:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant Engineering discipline – essential.
  • Proven experience as a Project Engineer within the New Zealand civil construction industry.
  • Experience delivering complex civil infrastructure projects, ideally involving water, wastewater or three waters.
  • Strong technical knowledge and practical construction experience.
  • Confidence managing subcontractors, programme, QA and project documentation.
  • Sound commercial understanding, including cost tracking, variations and claims.
  • The ability to coordinate multiple work fronts and make informed decisions on site.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive attitude and the confidence to take responsibility for project outcomes.

Why Consider It?

Join an established Tier 2 civil contractor with a strong pipeline of infrastructure work and the opportunity to play a significant role in project delivery.

You'll work alongside experienced industry professionals, tackle technically challenging projects and have the opportunity to further develop your career within a growing business.

This position is based in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, offering an opportunity for Engineers based in the wider region or those considering relocating.
