What they need
Waipa Civil Limited | Waikato | Full Time
Want to take real ownership of civil projects rather than spend your days sitting behind a desk?
At Waipa Civil, you’ll be involved in projects from the early planning stages right through construction and completion. You’ll work alongside experienced site teams, have genuine input into how projects are delivered, and build your experience across the technical, operational and commercial sides of civil construction.
We’re an established Waikato civil contractor with a team of 80+ people, delivering three waters, pump stations, subdivisions, renewals, upgrades and major civil projects across the region.
We’re looking for a Project Engineer who is practical, capable and wants to be closely involved in getting projects built.
The role
This is a hands-on position where you’ll work closely with management, Foremen and site teams, as well as clients, consultants and subcontractors.
You’ll be involved in:
- Planning and coordinating civil construction projects
- Managing programmes, budgets, forecasts and project costs
- Coordinating labour, plant, materials and subcontractors
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and construction requirements
- Managing quality, compliance and project documentation
- Identifying risks and resolving project issues
- Liaising with clients, consultants, councils and suppliers
- Supporting Foremen and site teams with technical matters
- Monitoring project performance from start through to completion
- Maintaining strong health, safety and environmental standards
About you
You’ll suit this role if you’re organised, practical and comfortable taking responsibility and making things happen.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- 2+ years’ experience in civil construction or civil engineering
- A Civil Engineering qualification, although this isn’t essential for the right person
- A good understanding of civil construction methods, plans and specifications
- Strong planning and problem-solving skills
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs
- Confident communication skills
- The ability to build strong relationships with site teams, clients and subcontractors
- Good Microsoft Office skills
- A strong focus on safety and quality
Why Waipa Civil?
You’ll get:
- Real involvement in projects from start to finish
- A mix of office, site and project-based work
- Varied civil projects across the Waikato
- Genuine responsibility and the opportunity to make decisions
- An experienced team around you
- Competitive remuneration based on experience
- Opportunities to develop and progress as the business grows
- A practical, down-to-earth working environment
You don’t need to tick every box.
If you’ve built solid civil construction experience and you’re ready for more responsibility, more project exposure and the opportunity to grow your career, we’d like to hear from you.
