What they need

Project Engineer – Marine & Offshore

Location: Falmouth, Cornwall
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Work Location: Primarily office-based with site/offshore work as required
Relocation: Relocation support can be considered for the right candidate

About the Role

McNeill Marine is recruiting for a Project Engineer on behalf of an established UK marine contractor delivering specialist marine construction and offshore projects.

This is a varied engineering and project delivery position covering projects from tender and initial planning through engineering, mobilisation, offshore/site execution and project close-out.

Projects can include marine civil engineering, rock armour and coastal defence, heavy lift operations, subsea cable installation, specialist offshore energy projects and marine construction.

The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, vessel crews, naval architects, lifting engineers, subcontractors and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and delivery of marine and offshore projects
  • Prepare engineering schedules, programmes and project forecasts
  • Produce engineering methodologies, calculations, drawings, RAMS, lift plans and technical reports
  • Provide engineering input into vessel selection, marine spreads, equipment specification and construction sequencing
  • Support the design of permanent and temporary marine structures using CAD
  • Provide engineering support for fabrication, transportation, installation and removal activities
  • Support heavy lift and complex rigging operations
  • Support rock armour delivery and placement projects
  • Support marine civil and nearshore construction works
  • Support subsea cable handling, pull-in, landing, burial and protection operations
  • Interface with vessel crews, deck teams, lifting personnel, ROV and diving teams
  • Participate in offshore, nearshore and site-based operations where required
  • Contribute to risk assessments and method statements
  • Support tendering activities, including technical methodologies and bid documentation
  • Attend client, contractor and subcontractor meetings
  • Assist with resolving technical, commercial and programme-related issues during project delivery

Experience & Background

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

  • A degree-level or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Project engineering or commercial engineering experience
  • An understanding of marine construction and offshore operations
  • Experience managing multiple engineering workstreams or supporting several projects simultaneously
  • Strong technical report writing and communication skills
  • CAD capability
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills

Experience in any of the following would be particularly advantageous:

  • Marine civil engineering
  • Heavy lift operations
  • Nearshore construction
  • Subsea cable installation, pull-in or landing works
  • Offshore installation projects
  • Specialist or offshore support vessels
  • Naval architecture
  • Lifting engineering
  • Fabrication yards
  • Site or offshore team management

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a growing specialist marine contractor with its own vessel fleet, assets and engineering capability.

The role offers exposure to a diverse range of marine construction and offshore projects, with involvement throughout the full project lifecycle rather than being limited to one engineering discipline.

Structured training, mentoring and professional development support are available, making the position suitable for an established Project Engineer or someone looking to develop further within specialist marine project engineering.

Relocation support can be considered for candidates currently based elsewhere in the UK.

UK right to work is required.

Pay: £45,300.00-£60,100.00 per year
