Project Engineer

Key responsibilities

1. Design Engineering Phase:

• Review project requirements, drawings, specifications and ground investigation information.
• Assess feasibility, constructability and key engineering risks.
• Develop the alignment, shaft requirements, construction methodology and work sequence.
• Select suitable MTBM, cutterhead, pipe jacking system and supporting equipment.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, method statements, technical proposals and submissions.
• Provide engineering input for productivity, programme, manpower, plant and equipment requirements.
• Support tender clarifications and technical evaluation.
• Upon award, develop and finalize the engineering solution for construction.
• Coordinate technical submissions and approvals with clients, consultants and relevant parties.

2. Site Supervision & Execution Phase:

• Review site readiness, approved drawings, method statements and construction requirements before commencement.
• Monitor mobilisation, site setup and MTBM system installation.
• Monitor launching and commencement of jacking.
• Monitor tunnelling and pipe jacking, including alignment, jacking force, lubrication, slurry/operating parameters and production.
• Assess actual ground and operating conditions against the engineering assumptions and resolve technical issues.
• Monitor MTBM reception, recovery and completion works.
• Coordinate site personnel, surveyors, subcontractors and relevant parties throughout execution.
• Ensure works comply with approved design, method statements, quality and safety requirements.
• Maintain progress, technical and as-built records.
• Capture actual production, ground conditions and performance data for future engineering and tenders.

Qualifications & Knowledge:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline, with relevant experience in trenchless or underground construction especially microtunneling, HDD and etc.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering principles, and groundwater control.
• Proficient in relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plaxis, or similar geotechnical software).
• Thorough knowledge of industry standards, HSE regulations, and permitting processes.

Experience:

• A minimum of 3 years of combined experience in trenchless technology, with a significant focus on the design and site supervision of microtunneling projects.
• Proven track record of having designed and supervised at least two major microtunneling drives from start to finish.
• Direct hands-on experience with different ground conditions (e.g., soft ground, rock, mixed face).

Skills:

• Excellent technical writing skills for preparing method statements, reports, and specifications.
• Competency in reading and interpreting geotechnical reports, design drawings, and GIS data.
• Strong supervisory and people management skills.
