About Us

POLO Engineering, Inc. is a general engineering and electrical contractor specializing in public works construction throughout Southern California. Our projects include traffic signals, roadway lighting, intelligent transportation systems, guardrail, drainage, concrete improvements, and related infrastructure.

We are seeking a technically capable, detail-oriented Project Engineer to support field operations, quality control, project coordination, and contract administration. Based in our Castaic office, you will work closely with project managers, field crews, procurement staff, and our engineering team in Quito.

About the Role

This position connects project requirements with field execution. You will review technical documents, perform field calculations, help verify that work meets project specifications, and maintain the documentation needed to move projects forward.

You should be comfortable working through technical questions, identifying discrepancies, and following issues through resolution. Estimating and bid preparation are handled by our Quito engineering team.

Responsibilities

Technical & Field Engineering

• Review construction plans, specifications, standard drawings, and contract requirements.
• Perform and document calculations for dimensions, elevations, slopes, offsets, quantities, and other field requirements.
• Support field layout and verify calculations against approved project documents.
• Identify conflicts, missing information, and discrepancies before they affect construction.
• Coordinate technical questions with project managers, field personnel, and agency representatives.
• Assist with construction sequencing and maintain records of field conditions and changes.

Quality Control

• Help verify that materials and installed work comply with approved plans, specifications, and submittals.
• Conduct and document field quality checks and track deficiencies through corrective action.
• Coordinate required inspections and testing, and maintain associated reports.
• Review material certifications, test results, and supporting compliance documents.
• Escalate nonconforming work and unresolved technical issues promptly.

Project Coordination & Contract Administration

• Prepare, review, submit, and track submittals, checking technical information against project specifications.
• Draft and track Requests for Information (RFIs), clearly documenting questions and required clarifications.
• Support Contract Change Orders (CCOs), including scope documentation, quantity calculations, cost backup, and tracking.
• Maintain current submittal, RFI, CCO, and action-item logs.
• Coordinate material approvals, procurement requirements, and delivery schedules.
• Attend project meetings, prepare meeting notes, and follow up on assigned actions.
• Track project progress, installed quantities, and information needed for progress payments.
• Maintain organized project records, field reports, correspondence, and revision histories.
• Support project closeout, including as-built records, warranties, and final documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
• Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical requirements.
• Strong math skills and ability to perform accurate, clearly documented construction calculations.
• Understanding of construction methods, materials, and basic quality-control practices.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical questions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Bluebeam or similar plan-review software.
• Ability to work on-site in Castaic and travel to active project sites as needed.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience supporting public works or Caltrans construction projects.
• Familiarity with Caltrans Standard Plans and Standard Specifications.
• Experience with submittals, RFIs, CCOs, inspections, and project documentation.
• Familiarity with surveying, field layout, or civil construction calculations.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
