Project Engineer

An established robotics and automation business is looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer to take technical ownership of custom automation projects, combining hands-on mechanical design with customer interaction and engineering coordination.

You’ll help shape solutions from early concepts and layouts through detailed design and delivery. This is an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys working directly with customers and taking broader responsibility for how projects come together.

What you’ll do

• Act as the main technical contact for customers, translating their requirements into practical engineering solutions.

• Develop and review equipment concepts, layouts and mechanical designs for custom automation systems.

• Lead internal and customer design reviews, resolving technical issues and keeping decisions moving.

• Coordinate design activities across internal teams and external suppliers, ensuring engineering deliverables meet project schedules and budgets.

• Produce 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings when required.

• Work closely with controls, electrical and simulation teams to ensure equipment meets performance and safety requirements.

• Manage design changes, track open issues and support testing, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

What you’ll need

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

• At least five years of mechanical design and project coordination experience within industrial automation, custom machinery or capital equipment.

• Strong 3D CAD skills using SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar software.

• Experience taking equipment designs from concept through detailed engineering.

• Confidence leading technical discussions and communicating directly with customers.

• Strong engineering judgement and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities.

• Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Experience with custom, engineer-to-order equipment and the integration of mechanical, electrical and controls systems would be particularly valuable.
