What they need

Banes General Contractors is a leading commercial general contractor serving clients throughout the West Texas region. For decades, we have built our reputation on quality construction, strong relationships, integrity, and a commitment to delivering projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

The Opportunity

We believe our people are our greatest asset. We are looking for a Project Engineer who is motivated to learn, contribute, and grow with a team that takes pride in the work we build and the communities we serve. The Project Engineer role at Banes is designed for someone who wants to build a long-term career in construction. In addition to day-to-day project coordination, the role provides exposure to estimating, procurement, scheduling, cost management, quality, subcontractor coordination, and field operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the project manager and superintendent to coordinate commercial construction projects from pre-construction through closeout, helping ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate with owners, architects and engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, city officials, and other project stakeholders to facilitate project activities and resolve issues.
  • Review and manage shop drawings, submittals, samples, RFIs, drawings, specifications, and other project documentation for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Support project scheduling by providing input on master and phased schedules, monitoring progress, and communicating potential impacts to the project team.
  • Assist with procurement activities, including subcontractor and vendor bids, purchase orders, material tracking, deliveries, and expediting to support project schedules and budgets.
  • Assist with cost management activities, including payment applications, invoice review, change orders, pricing of extra work and credits, and tracking project commitments.
  • Monitor construction progress and support quality control by identifying potential issues, coordinating inspections and testing, and helping develop corrective measures when needed.
  • Support project safety and environmental requirements, including applicable safety programs and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project information within the company's construction management systems, including submittals, RFIs, observations, photographs, drawings, specifications, schedules, and other project records.
  • Participate in owner, architect/contractor, subcontractor, and internal project meetings and provide follow-up on assigned action items.
  • Build strong working relationships with trade partners, vendors, and project stakeholders while supporting effective communication, coordination, and problem resolution.
  • Support project closeout activities and, as experience and responsibilities develop, take on increased project leadership responsibilities.

What We're Looking For

We value both formal education and hands-on construction experience. While a bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, engineering, architecture, or a related field is preferred, equivalent experience, training, and demonstrated knowledge in commercial construction may be considered in place of a degree.

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, engineering, architecture, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Relevant commercial construction experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and construction processes.
  • Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers, project teams, or construction documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while also taking ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or other construction management software is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
