Project Engineer – Graphics & Signage

Position Summary The Project Engineer is responsible for transforming awarded projects into accurate, production-ready work packages. This role reviews project requirements, develops technical documentation, coordinates engineering details, identifies project risks, and supports manufacturing and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has experience in commercial signage, large-format graphics, architectural environments, or custom fabrication and possesses strong organizational and technical problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities Project Planning

• Review awarded projects for completeness and technical feasibility.
• Develop project execution plans with the Project Manager.
• Coordinate project kickoff meetings with Sales, Estimating, Production, and Installation.
• Identify project risks early and recommend solutions.

Technical Documentation

• Create and review shop drawings.
• Develop production drawings and fabrication details.
• Generate installation drawings and field documentation.
• Verify dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
• Prepare bill of materials (BOMs).

Engineering Coordination

• Coordinate with architects, general contractors, designers, and clients.
• Review structural and mounting requirements.
• Verify site conditions using surveys, photos, and field measurements.
• Coordinate permitting documentation when required.

Manufacturing Support

• Provide production with complete manufacturing packages.
• Answer technical questions from fabrication teams.
• Review manufacturing changes for cost and schedule impacts.
• Support quality control throughout production.

Procurement Support

• Identify specialty materials and hardware.
• Coordinate custom fabricated components.
• Assist Purchasing with technical specifications.
• Review vendor drawings and submittals.

Installation Support

• Develop installation sequences.
• Coordinate equipment requirements.
• Assist with logistics planning.
• Support field crews during installation.
• Resolve field issues quickly to minimize delays.

Project Controls

• Track engineering deliverables.
• Monitor schedule milestones.
• Maintain accurate project documentation.
• Process engineering revisions.
• Communicate changes to all departments.

Required Skills

• Strong understanding of commercial signage construction.
• Knowledge of large-format graphics production.
• Experience with aluminum, ACM, acrylic, steel, wood, PVC, and composite materials.
• Ability to read architectural and construction drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Software Experience Preferred experience with:

• Adobe Illustrator
• AutoCAD
• Bluebeam Revu
• Microsoft Office
• Microsoft Project (preferred)
• CRM/ERP systems (Method CRM experience is a plus)
• File sharing platforms (SharePoint, Dropbox, etc.)

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in signage, graphics, architectural fabrication, or commercial construction.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, Architecture, or equivalent experience.
• Experience reviewing shop drawings and fabrication details.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Experience supporting field installations preferred.
