Project Engineers – Mechanical and Electrical (Data Center)

Two positions available: one Mechanical Project Engineer and one Electrical Project Engineer.

Both reporting to Package Manager

Role purpose

Each engineer will manage their respective work package from technical submissions through installation, inspection, testing and handover. Both roles require a strong site presence, disciplined QA/QC documentation and early identification of safety, quality and programme risks.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare material submittals for the assigned discipline. Verify compliance with specifications, drawings, approved makes and project requirements, and track comments and approvals before procurement or installation.
• Review shop drawings against contract documents, equipment data and site conditions. Identify scope gaps, clashes and interfaces with other trades, and raise RFIs or technical queries promptly.
• Prepare construction method statements, risk assessments and inspection and test plans (ITPs). Brief site teams and verify that work follows approved procedures.
• Electrical role: Coordinate works within the project scope, including ELV systems, cable containment, cabling, earthing and bonding, and equipment controls interfaces.
• Mechanical role: Coordinate works within the project scope, including chilled water pipework, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, PAHUs, FCUs, ductwork, ventilation and associated controls interfaces.
• Check buildability, access, maintenance clearances, supports and coordination with other services.
• Inspect delivered materials and installed work. Arrange inspections and maintain material inspection requests, work inspection requests, checklists, test records and photographic evidence.
• Identify nonconforming work, agree corrective actions and follow issues through to closure. Support as-built drawings and handover documentation.
• Coordinate with the main contractor, subcontractors, vendors, commissioning specialists and client representatives to resolve workfront, sequencing and interface issues.
• Monitor progress against the approved programme, report constraints early and propose practical mitigation or recovery measures.
• Enforce project safety requirements, including permits to work, isolation and lockout/tagout where applicable, lifting and works access. Stop and escalate unsafe work.
• Support pre-commissioning, testing and Cx Levels 1–3 activities relevant to the assigned package, in accordance with the project commissioning plan.

Required experience and skills

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering for the mechanical role or Electrical Engineering for the electrical role, or a closely related discipline. Professional Engineer registration is an advantage.
• At least five years’ experience delivering relevant MEP works on major construction projects. Data center or other mission critical facility experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to prepare material submittals, method statements, ITPs and inspection records to main contractor or consultant requirements.
• Strong technical knowledge of the assigned discipline and the ability to coordinate its interfaces with other trades.
• Able to read drawings, specifications, equipment schedules and installation details, and identify discrepancies before work proceeds.
• Confident managing subcontractors and vendors on site, challenging poor workmanship and resolving issues with clear written records.
• Strong working knowledge of construction safety procedures and planning work around sensitive or live systems.
• Working proficiency in English sufficient to prepare technical submissions and reports and participate in coordination meetings; fluency is not mandatory.
