What they need
Build More Than Steel. Build a Career.
SCW Contracting is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Structural Steel Division.
This is not simply a document control position. We are looking for someone who wants to learn the business, grow into greater responsibility, and become a key contributor to our team. The right candidate is driven, curious, humble, accountable, and eager to solve problems.
Our Project Engineers are exposed to every aspect of structural steel construction, including detailing, fabrication, procurement, scheduling, field operations, quality control, and project management. You will work alongside experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, Fabrication Leaders, Estimators, and Executives while developing the skills necessary to become a future leader within our organization.
If you are looking for a place where your effort matters, where you can grow professionally, and where you can make a meaningful impact, we would like to meet you.
Who We Are Looking For
We care far more about attitude, character, and values than we do about industry experience.
At SCW, we believe great teams are built by people who embody our core values of Teamwork, Honesty, Integrity, Grit, Hard Work, Accountability, and Ownership. These values guide how we treat each other, serve our clients, solve problems, and make decisions.
The ideal candidate is:
- Hungry to learn and continuously improve
- Naturally curious and asks thoughtful questions
- Humble enough to accept coaching and feedback
- Smart enough to think critically and solve problems
- Willing to work hard and do what it takes to support the team
- Honest, trustworthy, and dependable
- Comfortable taking responsibility for their commitments and actions
- Driven to take ownership rather than wait for direction
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Motivated to build a long-term career rather than simply find a job
We believe great team members communicate proactively, support one another, take accountability for results, and focus on solutions rather than blame.
What You Will Do
As a Project Engineer, you will support multiple structural steel projects from contract award through project completion.
Project Coordination & Document Control
- Maintain project files and document management systems
- Track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and correspondence
- Ensure fabrication and field teams receive current project documents
- Maintain drawing revision control and project records
Shop Drawings & Technical Coordination
- Coordinate shop drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metals
- Assist with submittal preparation and tracking
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Identify missing information and help develop RFIs
Fabrication & Procurement Support
- Assist with material procurement and tracking
- Support fabrication readiness and production planning
- Coordinate with vendors, detailers, and suppliers
- Help identify and mitigate schedule risks
Field & Project Support
- Assist with field coordination and installation readiness
- Support quality control and inspection documentation
- Communicate with General Contractors, Engineers, and field personnel
- Help resolve project issues before they become problems
Every responsibility within this role contributes to helping our team successfully deliver projects safely, efficiently, and professionally.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Experience in structural steel, commercial construction, manufacturing, or engineering is beneficial, but not required for the right candidate.
We are more interested in finding someone with the right mindset, work ethic, and willingness to learn than someone who already knows everything.
