Project Engineering Manager

Your new company

An established renewable energy business is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the technical development and engineering delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This is a senior, owner-side position with responsibility for leading internal and external engineering resources across the full project lifecycle, from development and design through procurement, construction, commissioning and operational handover. Working closely with project development, operations, contractors, technical advisers and key industry stakeholders, the Engineering Manager will ensure projects are technically robust, commercially deliverable and positioned to successfully progress through Financial Investment Decision (FID), construction and commercial operations.

Your new role

• Lead engineering activities across the development and delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Manage internal engineering resources, consultants, owner's engineers and specialist technical advisers.
• Provide technical leadership across project development, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational handover.
• Manage technical interfaces across generation assets, substations, transmission infrastructure, communications systems and operational requirements.
• Establish and maintain project design bases, technical requirements and engineering standards.
• Lead technical governance, engineering assurance and design review processes.
• Identify and manage technical, technology, constructability and interface risks.
• Ensure engineering solutions are safe, practical, operable and aligned with overall project objectives.
• Manage engineering budgets, schedules and resource requirements.
• Oversee grid connection engineering, including studies, modelling, Generator Performance Standards (GPS) and technical compliance requirements.
• Support technical elements of contractor negotiations and contract close-out.
• Conduct engineering readiness assessments supporting procurement approvals, FID and construction commencement.
• Work closely with commercial, finance, legal, regulatory, permitting and project delivery functions throughout development and execution.

What you'll need to succeed

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
• Extensive experience delivering utility-scale renewable energy, transmission or power generation projects in Australia.
• Strong knowledge of electrical generation, distribution and transmission systems.
• Demonstrated experience progressing projects through feasibility, development and FID.
• Experience across the complete asset lifecycle, including development, design, construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards, network requirements and power-system compliance obligations.
• Demonstrated grid connection experience, ideally including exposure to the SWIS and WEM.
• Experience supporting project financing and lender technical due diligence.
• Proven owner-side experience managing engineering teams, EPC/EPCM contractors, OEMs, consultants and technical advisers.
• The ability to assess complex engineering, commercial and operational trade-offs and communicate technical information clearly to a broad range of stakeholders.
