Ready to put your estimating and engineering expertise to work on Australian construction and infrastructure projects?
We’re looking for an experienced Project Estimator / Project Engineer who can turn project plans and requirements into accurate estimates, competitive tenders, practical methodologies, and commercially sound solutions.
This is more than just crunching numbers — you’ll work across estimating, project planning, cost management, risk assessment, tender preparation, and team development, with opportunities to take on increasingly complex projects and greater responsibility.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Project Evaluation & Planning
- Review project documents, building plans, and scope-of-work requirements
- Conduct site visits to understand project conditions and requirements
- Prepare tender review forms, detailed SOWs, and project research
- Develop Nearmap/Google Earth line diagrams to illustrate project scope
- Research project requirements and provide indicative budget values
Cost Estimation & Management
- Prepare estimates for labour, plant, equipment, and materials
- Develop and manage detailed material lists and costings
- Obtain, assess, and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Analyse project costs and market pricing
- Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and keep projects within budget
Proposals & Contracts
- Prepare detailed proposals covering materials, costs, and timelines
- Develop bid packages and assist with contract negotiations
- Review and approve purchase orders where required
Methodology & Scheduling
- Develop clear project methodologies from planning through delivery
- Prepare task chronology, staging, and preliminary project programs
- Ensure proposed methodologies and schedules meet contract requirements
- Continuously identify ways to improve tender methodologies and project delivery
Risk & Financial Oversight
- Conduct project risk assessments and identify potential cost variations
- Track and report project costs
- Assist with contingency planning and value engineering
- Complete and evaluate cost-revenue analysis
Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor and provide training to junior estimators
- Support and lead the team in achieving KPIs
- Take on greater responsibility as you develop your expertise and professional judgement
Audit & Continuous Improvement
- Support tasks related to annual client audits
- Prepare and organise documentation and third-party audit meeting minutes
- Contribute innovative ideas to improve the client's Integrated Management System (IMS)
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5+ years of experience as a Project Estimator or Project Engineer
- Proven experience with Australian construction or infrastructure projects
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field — or equivalent industry experience
- Strong ability to interpret building plans, project documents, SOWs, and tender requirements
- Solid experience in estimating labour, materials, plant, and equipment
- Strong commercial, analytical, and cost-management skills
- Experience developing project methodologies, staging plans, and preliminary schedules
- Knowledge of risk assessment, cost tracking, value engineering, and contingency planning
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior estimators and contribute to team KPIs
- Experience with audits, project documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives
