Your Role

Are you ready to lead complex engineering projects for one of Vanderlande’s most strategic customers and help shape reliable, scalable parcel automation solutions for Amazon?

As a Project Leader Engineering within the Amazon Engineering Department, you will lead one or more multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept to commissioning. You are responsible for achieving project objectives by managing scope, planning, quality, costs, functionality, resources, and risks across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines. Working closely with Project Managers, Installation Managers, engineers, Amazon stakeholders, and other internal and external partners, you ensure successful delivery of innovative automation and parcel handling solutions.

You will play a key role in defining system functionality, developing project plans, coordinating engineering activities, and ensuring high-quality deliverables in line with customer requirements and Vanderlande standards.

From supporting proposal and solution development to overseeing installation, commissioning, testing, and handover, you guide projects through every phase of execution. You proactively identify risks and opportunities, align stakeholders, optimize team performance, and contribute to continuous improvement across Amazon projects and the department.

The Amazon Engineering Department

The Amazon Engineering Department within the Distribution Domain is responsible for the engineering, delivery, and commissioning of material handling solutions for Amazon projects, supporting one of Vanderlande’s key strategic customers.

The department brings together Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and multidisciplinary engineering expertise to deliver standardized, scalable, and high-quality solutions in a fast-paced customer environment. The team works closely with Amazon stakeholders, internal project teams, installation teams, supply chain, and service colleagues to ensure reliable execution, continuous improvement, and long-term customer success.

Your Responsibilities

• Lead one or more large and/or complex multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Define project scope, execution plans, schedules, milestones, and resource requirements.
• Manage project budgets, planning, risks, opportunities, and overall project performance.
• Monitor and report project status through regular progress reviews and Project Status Reports.
• Coordinate engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
• Ensure the quality and timely delivery of all engineering deliverables, including specifications, documentation, materials, training, and service handover.
• Advise Amazon stakeholders, Project Managers, and internal teams on system functionality, project objectives, technical choices, and execution priorities.
• Support proposal, solution, and project preparation activities by providing technical input, feasibility assessments, and engineering recommendations.
• Coordinate installation, commissioning, testing, validation, and handover activities at Amazon project sites.
• Stay informed about technological and industry developments, Amazon-specific requirements, and lessons learned, and apply these insights to improve project execution and departmental ways of working.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and engineering standards throughout project execution.
• Identify and mitigate project risks while maximizing opportunities for project success.
• Develop, coach, and support project team members to achieve both project and personal development goals.
• Drive continuous improvement, introduce new working methods, and contribute to departmental process optimization and best practices.

Your Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical discipline.
• Preferably a background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Project Leader, Lead Engineer, Product Engineer, or similar role in a technical project environment.
• Strong understanding of project management principles, including scope, planning, budget management, and risk & opportunity management.
• Experience with customer-specific delivery environments, standardized solution rollout, or high-volume logistics automation is considered an advantage.
• Ability to effectively communicate with customers, Amazon stakeholders, and multidisciplinary engineering teams in an international project environment.
• Pragmatic and solution-oriented mindset with the ability to balance quality, lead time, costs, and technology.
• Strong leadership, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proactive attitude with a strong sense of ownership and initiative.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Dutch is considered an advantage.
• Willingness to travel internationally approximately 15-25% of the time.
