Project Manager - Architectural Metalwork

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Bay of Plenty team. This is a practical delivery role for someone who understands fabrication and installation, not a role that is purely focused on administration and reporting. You will take projects from internal handover through shop drawings, procurement, fabrication, site installation and completion. You will work closely with our QS/estimating, drafting, workshop and installation teams and be the main point of contact for builders and clients on the projects you manage. The right person will be comfortable getting into the detail, visiting site, resolving issues early and keeping everyone moving. You need to understand how work is actually built and installed so that decisions made in the office make sense on the workshop floor and on site.

Key responsibilities

• Manage architectural metalwork projects from handover through to completion.
• Review contracts, scope information, construction drawings and internal handover information.
• Work with our drafting team to drive shop drawings, approvals and design coordination.
• Coordinate with the QS/estimating team on procurement, variations and commercial information.
• Plan and coordinate fabrication, finishing, freight and installation requirements.
• Work with the scheduling team to ensure workshop and site labour is available when required.
• Liaise directly with builders, site managers, architects, engineers and other project stakeholders.
• Attend site meetings and carry out regular site visits, measures and progress checks.
• Identify programme, design and site risks early and actively resolve them.
• Manage RFIs, drawing revisions, site instructions and changes in scope.

About you

• Background in architectural metalwork, fabrication, installation, structural steel or general engineering.
• Previous project management, site supervision, leading-hand or engineering coordination experience.
• Strong practical understanding of fabrication processes and site installation sequencing.
• Able to read and interpret architectural, structural and shop drawings confidently.
• Comfortable dealing directly with builders and clients and making practical decisions.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage several live projects at once.
• Commercial awareness and an understanding of variations, procurement and project scope.
• Proactive, solutions-focused approach with a strong sense of ownership.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Full NZ Driver Licence.
