Construction Project Manager

Narvick Brothers General Contractors & Construction Managers
Morris, Illinois
Full-Time

About Narvick Brothers

Narvick Brothers is a fifth-generation, family-owned General Contractor and Construction Manager serving Northern Illinois since 1933. We manage commercial, industrial, municipal, institutional, and specialty construction projects throughout the region.

We are looking for an experienced Construction Project Manager to join our growing team and take ownership of projects from preconstruction through final closeout.

Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall financial, contractual, administrative, and client-management success of assigned construction projects.

This position works directly with the Project Superintendent and Project Executive to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with the contract documents.

Our PMs are expected to own their projects—not simply process paperwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cost projections, and financial reporting
  • Manage subcontractor buyout and subcontract execution
  • Review scopes of work and identify gaps before contracts are issued
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, procurement, and long-lead items
  • Prepare and negotiate owner and subcontractor change orders
  • Review subcontractor pay applications and assist with owner billing
  • Work closely with the Superintendent to maintain the project schedule and short-term look-ahead planning
  • Lead or participate in owner/architect/contractor meetings
  • Maintain strong communication with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal team members
  • Identify project risks early and develop solutions before they impact cost or schedule
  • Maintain accurate project documentation
  • Manage punch list, turnover, and project closeout
  • Help maintain Narvick Brothers' standards for quality, professionalism, and client service

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of commercial construction experience preferred
  • Previous Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, or Superintendent experience
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction means and methods
  • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, contracts, and subcontracts
  • Strong understanding of project budgets, cost control, change orders, and construction scheduling
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Organized, accountable, and proactive
  • Comfortable making decisions and taking ownership of project outcomes
  • Experience with construction project management software, Microsoft Excel, and related technology

Experience with municipal, educational, healthcare, industrial, fire/police, or other public-sector construction is a plus.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Narvick Brothers Project Manager:

  • Knows where the project stands financially
  • Stays ahead of problems rather than reacting to them
  • Keeps subcontractors accountable
  • Communicates effectively with the Superintendent
  • Protects the project schedule
  • Documents changes and protects the company's contractual position
  • Maintains strong owner and architect relationships
  • Brings problems forward with recommended solutions
  • Takes responsibility for the overall success of the project

Why Narvick Brothers?

Narvick Brothers has been building throughout Northern Illinois since 1933. We combine the resources and capabilities of an established contractor with the accessibility and decision-making of a family-owned company.

This position offers the opportunity to manage meaningful projects, work directly with company leadership, and play an important role in the continued growth of Narvick Brothers.

Competitive compensation and benefits based on experience.

Narvick Brothers is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
