What they need

Project Manager – Healthcare Construction

TriCon Construction Services is seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in healthcare construction to join our team in New Jersey.

This position is intended for a construction professional who understands the additional level of planning, communication, and coordination required to successfully manage work within hospitals and other active healthcare environments.

The ideal candidate has managed projects involving occupied healthcare facilities, phased renovations, shutdowns, infection-control requirements, life-safety coordination, and complex owner/user-group coordination.

This is not an entry-level project management position. We are looking for someone capable of taking ownership of projects and managing them from preconstruction through closeout.

Responsibilities

The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management and successful delivery of assigned healthcare construction projects, including:

  • Manage projects from preconstruction and estimating handoff through construction and closeout
  • Develop, maintain, and manage project schedules
  • Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, commitments, and profitability
  • Buy out subcontractors and coordinate subcontract agreements
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, procurement, and long-lead items
  • Review drawings and specifications for constructability and coordination issues
  • Lead owner, architect, engineer, subcontractor, and internal project meetings
  • Prepare and manage change orders, change-event documentation, and cost impacts
  • Coordinate closely with field supervision to maintain schedule and resolve construction issues
  • Manage subcontractor performance and accountability
  • Coordinate work within active and occupied healthcare environments
  • Develop and coordinate phasing, shutdowns, tie-ins, temporary conditions, and after-hours work when required
  • Understand and manage healthcare-specific requirements including ICRA, infection control, interim life-safety measures, dust/noise containment, access restrictions, and occupied-space protection
  • Coordinate with hospital facilities teams, clinical users, infection-control personnel, security, engineering, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with AHJ inspections, commissioning, punch list, turnover, and closeout
  • Identify project risks early and develop solutions before they affect the schedule or budget
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and design professionals

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of commercial construction project management experience
  • Direct experience managing healthcare or hospital construction projects
  • Experience working in occupied facilities
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and scopes of work
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, change orders, procurement, and subcontractors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead meetings and communicate effectively with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and field personnel
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Working knowledge of Procore or similar construction management software

Preferred:

  • Experience with hospital renovations, additions, imaging suites, operating rooms, emergency departments, patient-care spaces, laboratories, or similar technically complex healthcare projects
  • Experience with ICRA and interim life-safety requirements
  • Experience planning utility shutdowns and work within active hospital systems
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their projects.

The right candidate should be comfortable getting into the details, working directly with the superintendent and subcontractors, communicating with the client, identifying problems early, and making sure commitments are followed through.

Healthcare construction rarely goes exactly according to plan. We want a PM who can anticipate issues, develop solutions, and keep the project moving without losing control of cost, schedule, quality, or the client's expectations.
