Project Manager

This is a hands-on project leadership role for someone who understands both what is happening on site and what is happening commercially. You’ll take ownership of projects from mobilisation through delivery and close-out, leading Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors and project support staff while maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.

The opportunity would particularly suit a Project Manager with experience across three waters, pipelines, drainage, pump stations, treatment infrastructure or complex civil works associated with water projects.

You’ll have the autonomy to run your projects, supported by an experienced wider team and a business that values strong planning, accountability and practical project delivery.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for the safe, timely and commercially successful delivery of civil construction projects, including:

• Leading projects from mobilisation through construction, handover and commercial close-out
• Managing project programmes, milestones, resources and rolling lookaheads
• Leading and supporting Site Engineers, Project Engineers and Supervisors
• Maintaining control of project budgets, forecasts, cash flow and cost-to-complete
• Managing variations, claims, notices and contractual requirements
• Identifying programme, commercial and delivery risks early and implementing recovery plans
• Managing subcontractors, procurement and project resources
• Working closely with clients, consultants, authorities and other project stakeholders
• Driving strong HSEQ and quality outcomes
• Providing clear and accurate reporting across programme, cost, risk and overall project performance

The role requires someone who can connect what is happening in the field with programme, cost and contractual performance — capturing issues early enough to protect the overall project outcome.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced civil Project Manager who brings:

• Proven experience delivering civil construction or infrastructure projects
• Strong understanding of earthworks, drainage, three waters and/or wider civil infrastructure
• Commercial capability across forecasting, variations, claims and contract administration
• Experience leading Engineers, Supervisors, subcontractors and project teams
• Strong programme and planning capability
• Confidence managing clients and key project stakeholders
• A practical understanding of how civil projects are delivered on site
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• A relevant Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Quantity Surveying qualification, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience within the New Zealand civil infrastructure market
