Project Manager – Job Role
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong track record of successfully managing national IT and data infrastructure rollouts across multiple retail or commercial sites. The successful candidate will have led complex, large-scale deployment programmes from initiation through to completion, coordinating people, suppliers, logistics, budgets, risks, and technical delivery across geographically dispersed locations. Strong stakeholder-management, governance, and communication skills are essential, alongside sufficient technical understanding to oversee infrastructure installations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
· National rollout leadership: Take end-to-end responsibility for planning and delivering national IT and data infrastructure programmes across multiple sites, from mobilisation and pilot activity through to full deployment and closure.
· Programme planning and control: Build and maintain robust rollout plans, schedules, trackers, governance controls, and reporting to manage milestones, dependencies, resources, risks, issues, and change.
· Project governance: Establish and maintain an effective governance framework, including clear roles and decision-making authority, regular project boards and review meetings, stage-gate approvals, accurate status reporting, and timely escalation of risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions.
· Multi-site coordination: Sequence and coordinate activity across geographically dispersed locations, ensuring site readiness, access, materials, engineering resources, and technical dependencies are aligned.
· Technical delivery oversight: Manage structured cabling and associated infrastructure installations, including Cat6 and Cat6A solutions, containment, and related technologies, ensuring delivery meets the agreed design and quality standards.
· Stakeholder and customer management: Act as the primary point of contact for customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams, providing clear communication, managing expectations, and driving timely decisions.
· Resource, supplier, and logistics management: Coordinate field engineers, subcontractors, supply-chain partners, equipment, and logistics to support efficient and consistent delivery at scale.
· Commercial and governance management: Control budgets, forecasts, project documentation, risks, issues, scope, and change to maintain predictable delivery and clear accountability.
· Quality, compliance, and handover: Ensure installations comply with health and safety requirements, relevant standards, technical best practice, and agreed acceptance criteria, with accurate handover documentation completed for each site.
Essential Experience and Skills
· Relevant delivery background: Substantial experience in project management within national, multi-site IT or data infrastructure environments; this is the key requirement for the role.
· Project controls expertise: Strong knowledge of scope, budget, schedule, quality, risk, dependency, and change controls within complex deployment programmes.
· Multi-site operational awareness: A clear understanding of the readiness, access, resource, supply-chain, logistics, and handover considerations that affect delivery across geographically dispersed locations.
· Project management systems: Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Smartsheet, or comparable tools for scheduling, data analysis, dashboarding, and management reporting.
· Leadership and communication: Strong written, verbal, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders and secure decisions.
· A proactive, practical approach to resolving delivery challenges and managing multiple workstreams and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Practical understanding of structured cabling and associated technologies, including Cat6 and Cat6A installations, containment, testing, and quality assurance.
Desirable Qualifications
· PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner certification or equivalent.
· ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent service-management qualification.
· Experience delivering infrastructure rollouts within retail or similarly operational, multi-site environments.
