What they need

SUMMARY

This role will be part of a fast-paced, high-performing team tasked with tackling the challenges in designing, building, and setting up operations for MARA’s data center facilities and major infrastructure improvement projects to optimize utilization of space, power, and cooling within operational data centers around the globe. Responsibilities encompass various aspects of planning, execution, vendor management and coordination to ensure that infrastructure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to defined parameters.

The successful candidate will work closely with the MARA development group, supporting front-end planning and then managing assigned data center projects from pre-construction through commissioning, with guidance from senior project managers.

This is an entry-level project management role, well suited to a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager from an engineering and construction background who is ready to step into project management and eager to learn. Some data center experience is preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate, execute, and track assigned projects through completion, with guidance from senior project managers, ensuring consistency with company strategy and goals.
  • Review scope of work, deliverables and progress of all disciplines including civil/structural, electrical, mechanical, and network controls.
  • Identify areas for improvement based on a fundamental understanding of the above systems, cost-benefit analysis, and historical data provided by other teams.
  • Monitor subcontractors’ activities and review progress against respective billings, ensuring adherence to project plans and quality standards.
  • Support procurement of major long-lead equipment and subcontractors’ services, including evaluations, selection, negotiations, contracts, and logistics.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems, and troubleshoot issues that arise during the project lifecycle, escalating to senior leadership as needed.
  • Monitor project progress, identify deviations from the plan, and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure set goals are met.
  • Prepare and present reports with project updates and financial analyses for senior management.
  • Stay current on the latest data center power and cooling technologies.
  • Travel up to 25–30% of the time within the Americas.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management.
  • 2-4 years of experience in execution of engineering and construction projects, with exposure to projects from planning through completion.
  • Exposure to data center or other mission-critical facility construction, including power distribution and cooling systems, is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and construction principles.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to effectively collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Emerging leadership qualities, including the ability to collaborate with and motivate team members to achieve project objectives.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Project, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). Experience with construction project management tools such as Procore or Primavera P6 is a plus.
  • PMP or CAPM certification, or a willingness to pursue one, is a plus.
