Project Manager (Defence)

On behalf of our clients who operate in the Australian Defence sector, we are seeking an experienced Project Manager to support a major Defence capability program in Canberra. This role requires hands‑on experience working with the One Defence Capability System (ODCS) and progressing projects through formal capability lifecycle gates.

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in CASG, Defence industry, or a Navy/Maritime capability environment, with proven ability to manage complex capability projects within Defence governance frameworks.

The role is being offered as a long-term day rate contract.

Due to the nature of the work, candidates MUST hold NV1 or above clearance and MUST be based in Canberra.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project planning, delivery and reporting for a Defence capability system
• Manage progression through ODCS capability lifecycle gates, ensuring compliance with Defence governance
• Coordinate stakeholders across CASG, Defence, Navy/Maritime and industry partners
• Oversee project risks, issues, dependencies and change controls
• Support capability documentation, decision‑support artefacts and milestone reviews
• Prepare high‑quality briefs, schedules, registers and assurance documentation
• Monitor performance, progress and alignment with capability requirements
• Contribute to continuous improvement across capability and project processes

About You

You will bring:

• Current AGSVA NV1 clearance or above (mandatory)
• Demonstrated experience with One Defence Capability System (ODCS)
• Proven ability to move capability projects through ODCS gates
• Experience as a Project Manager within CASG, Defence industry or a Navy/Maritime capability program
• Strong understanding of Defence capability lifecycle, governance and project controls
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills across Defence, CASG and industry
• Strong communication, organisational and analytical skills
