Project Manager (Fire Protection, Data centres)

Job Overview

Our client is an established engineering solutions provider specialising in fire protection systems. They are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the end-to-end delivery of fire protection projects within data centre environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for project planning, site execution, cost control, stakeholder management, quality assurance, safety compliance, testing and commissioning, and final handover. The role requires close coordination with clients, consultants, main contractors and other M&E trades to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule and in accordance with stringent data centre requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Execution

• Review contract documents, technical specifications, approved drawings and project requirements.
• Develop project schedules, milestones and execution plans aligned with overall data centre construction timelines.
• Plan manpower, materials, equipment, procurement and subcontractor resources.
• Coordinate project kick-off meetings and monitor progress against agreed timelines.
• Manage installation works while minimising disruption to other critical construction activities.

2. Client & Stakeholder Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, main contractors and relevant authorities.
• Attend site coordination meetings, progress reviews and technical discussions.
• Coordinate with other M&E contractors and trades to resolve interface and installation issues.
• Manage client expectations, address technical concerns and provide regular project updates.

3. Project & Financial Management

• Monitor project budgets, costs, cash flow and overall profitability.
• Manage variation orders (VOs), progress claims and contractual changes.
• Review procurement costs, subcontractor payments and material requirements.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and compliance standards.

4. Resource & Site Coordination

• Lead and coordinate project engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and site personnel.
• Ensure sufficient manpower and materials are available to meet critical project milestones.
• Coordinate installation sequencing with other trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other building services.
• Monitor material deliveries and resolve site constraints that could affect project progress.

5. Risk & Programme Management

• Identify project risks, construction constraints and potential schedule delays.
• Develop mitigation measures and recovery plans to maintain project timelines.
• Coordinate works in restricted-access, high-security and mission-critical environments.
• Ensure fire protection installations are properly integrated with the wider data centre infrastructure.

6. Quality, Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with applicable Singapore Fire Code, SCDF requirements, workplace safety regulations and project specifications.
• Oversee installation quality, inspections, testing and commissioning of fire protection systems.
• Ensure adherence to approved drawings, method statements, inspection and test plans, and quality procedures.
• Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to address defects and ensure successful inspections.

7. Testing, Commissioning & Project Handover

• Oversee system testing, commissioning, integrated testing where applicable, and final inspections.
• Coordinate testing activities with other relevant building systems and data centre stakeholders.
• Ensure completion of applicable TOP/TSC requirements and regulatory submissions.
• Manage the submission of as-built drawings, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, test reports, warranties and maintenance documentation.
• Ensure timely project close-out and handover in accordance with client requirements.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline.
• Relevant project management experience in fire protection, fire safety systems or M&E engineering projects.
• Experience delivering projects within data centres or other mission-critical facilities is highly advantageous.
• Good understanding of Singapore Fire Code, SCDF requirements and relevant regulatory processes.
• Experience managing project schedules, budgets, subcontractors, procurement and site resources.
• Familiarity with fire protection installation, testing, commissioning and handover processes.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple contractors and engineering disciplines.
• Good commercial awareness, including cost control, variation orders and project profitability.
• Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
