What they need

About Us

Platform Construction is a growing developer-builder delivering commercial, accommodation and mixed-use projects across Canterbury. We are recognised for practical project delivery, strong coordination and collaborative project teams.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our team and lead the delivery of a major commercial redevelopment project in Christchurch.

This is a hands-on project leadership role with responsibility for driving the project from commencement through to completion, coordinating consultants, subcontractors and suppliers, and ensuring programme, quality, safety, commercial and client expectations are achieved.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will take overall responsibility for planning, coordinating and driving project delivery across the full construction lifecycle.

You will work closely with the wider project team, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and key stakeholders to maintain programme momentum, identify risks early and ensure the project is delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the project from commencement through to practical completion and close-out.
  • Develop, maintain and drive the project programme and key delivery milestones.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, consultants, suppliers and internal project resources.
  • Lead project planning, sequencing and construction methodology discussions.
  • Manage project risks, constraints and programme impacts proactively.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants and other stakeholders.
  • Lead project meetings and ensure actions, decisions and responsibilities are clearly communicated and followed through.
  • Monitor project progress and take corrective action where required to maintain delivery targets.
  • Work closely with site teams to ensure construction activities align with programme, quality and commercial objectives.
  • Manage health and safety expectations and support a strong safety culture across the project.
  • Oversee quality assurance, inspections, defects and compliance requirements.
  • Support commercial management, including contract administration, variations, claims and project reporting.
  • Coordinate design information and resolve buildability, sequencing and technical issues.
  • Maintain accurate project records and reporting through systems including Procore.
  • Support procurement planning and ensure subcontractor packages and materials are aligned with programme requirements.
  • Lead the project team with clear expectations, accountability and constructive problem-solving.

What You’ll Bring

We are looking for an experienced commercial construction professional with:

  • Proven experience managing commercial construction projects from commencement through to completion.
  • Strong experience programming and coordinating subcontractors, consultants and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience managing health and safety, quality assurance and project compliance.
  • Strong project leadership capability with clear communication and practical problem-solving skills.
  • A firm understanding of commercial construction from ECI through to fit-out and completion.
  • Strong programming, planning and project-control capability.
  • Experience using Procore or comparable construction management software.
  • Strong digital literacy and confidence working across project management, reporting and programming systems.
  • Experience delivering complex commercial redevelopment, refurbishment or existing-building projects would be highly regarded.

Commercial and Contract Knowledge

You will have a strong working understanding of:

  • The Construction Contracts Act and its application in commercial construction.
  • NZS 3910 contracts and contract administration.
  • Commercial construction methodologies and end-to-end project delivery.
  • Procurement, programme management, subcontractor coordination and project reporting.
  • Construction risk identification and management.
  • Ideally, the Christchurch and Canterbury construction environment, including local market conditions, consultants, subcontractors and project delivery considerations.

About You

You will be an organised, driven and collaborative project leader who takes ownership of outcomes and maintains high standards throughout delivery.

You will:

  • Be highly organised and driven to achieve project targets and deadlines.
  • Be a strong leader and team player with high levels of integrity and honesty.
  • Treat people respectfully and appreciatively while providing clear leadership and accountability.
  • Be able to motivate your project team and get the best from the people around you.
  • Be strongly safety focused and committed to supporting a safe and well-managed project environment.
  • Be supportive of your team and committed to achieving strong outcomes for our clients.
  • Remain calm, practical and solutions focused when managing project pressure or competing priorities.
  • Take ownership of issues and drive them through to resolution.
  • Be forward looking and continually challenge how work can be delivered more effectively.
  • Look beyond established ways of working and never be satisfied with simply accepting “normal”.
  • Communicate clearly, constructively and professionally with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams.

Fixed-Term Opportunity

This is a one-year fixed-term opportunity to join Platform Construction and take a key leadership role in the delivery of a major commercial redevelopment project within our Canterbury portfolio.

You will have the opportunity to lead a complex project, work closely with an experienced construction team and make a significant contribution to successful project delivery.

Full details of the fixed-term arrangement will be confirmed in the employment agreement.

What We Offer

  • A key leadership role on a major commercial redevelopment project.
  • Opportunity to manage a complex project from commencement through to completion.
  • Full-time, Christchurch-based position.
  • Collaborative and practical project environment.
  • Competitive remuneration based on experience and capability.
