What they need
We’ve created this role to lead a new project management function at NoMuda, and its first project is already signed: a large VisualFactory implementation for a prestigious automotive manufacturer here in Warwickshire.
VisualFactory runs on the shop floor, guiding operators through each step of a build. When an implementation is scoped and run well, the customer goes live on the date they planned production around. When it slips, their plans slip with it.
The role
You’ll lead VisualFactory implementations for some of our highest-value customers, from scoping through to handover to our Support team. You’ll report to the Head of Technical Projects, and work with on how the project management function runs as it grows. There’s a documented delivery process and established tooling to start from.
The central task is owning scope, timeline and budget on every project, and giving customers and NoMuda leadership an accurate picture of where each one stands. In practice, that means:
- Writing Statements of Work with the project team and the customer, and agreeing deliverables and timelines with everyone involved
- Building the project budget from team estimates, tracking hours burned against deliverables and raising project invoices with our Account Managers
- Setting each project up: the team and their roles, the RACI, and the plan and time tracking in our planning and time booking tools
- Running kick-offs, team check-ins, customer meetings and status reviews, then leading Go-Live, Hypercare and the handover to Support
- Taking change requests through impact assessment and approval, and keeping scope, timeline and budget current as they change
- Managing risks, issues and dependencies, and escalating early to customer sponsors and NoMuda leadership
- Leading teams of Integration and Implementation Engineers, Software Developers and Product Support colleagues
- Closing each project with a retrospective and customer feedback, and feeding what you learn back into how we deliver
What we’re looking for
Essential
- Around 5 years leading complex software, technology or engineering projects to agreed scope, timeline and budget
- Waterfall delivery experience, from requirements through to handover
- Experience writing Statements of Work or other contract-level scoping documents
- Experience building budgets from team estimates and tracking effort against deliverables
- Change control experience, including working out the cost and timeline impact of each change
- Confidence with senior customer and internal stakeholders, and the ability to hold a position on scope while keeping their trust
- The habit of making decisions, raising risks early and keeping plans, budgets and logs accurate enough that anyone can see where a project stands
- Willingness to travel to customer sites in the UK and abroad
Desirable
- Experience in manufacturing, MES, ERP or industrial software
- Projects that connect software to shop-floor equipment or enterprise systems
- PMP, PRINCE2 or a similar project management qualification
- Microsoft Project or similar planning and time booking tools
- International customers, ISO 27001 or a working knowledge of Agile
About NoMuda
NoMuda is founder-led. The founders started the company in 1998, still own and run it, and one of them wrote VisualFactory. At about 50 people, the people who built the product make the decisions, and you’ll work with them directly.
NoMuda VisualFactory is a web-based Manufacturing Execution System (MES). It guides operators through each step of a build, records what happens on the shop floor in real time and gives manufacturers the data to improve quality and efficiency. Our customers include Volvo, Bombardier and ThyssenKrupp, and they use it to build cars, planes, electric buses and deep-sea robots.
"Muda" is Japanese for waste, and lean principles shape how we build the software and how we work. Most of us are based at our office near Henley-in-Arden in Warwickshire, with the rest in the US.
