What they need
Remedial Project Manager | Building Consultancy | Sydney
Job Summary
Join a boutique and well-established building consultancy specialising in remedial and Class 2 residential projects across Sydney.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to take ownership of remedial projects from initial investigation and design coordination through tendering, contractor appointment, construction and completion. You'll join a close-knit team of approximately 20 people and work directly with experienced building consultants and senior leaders.
3 Key Points
- Manage Class 2 remedial projects from investigation and design through to completion
- Boutique Lane Cove consultancy with approximately 20 staff and experienced senior leadership
- Broad exposure across defects, remedial construction, expert witness and building consultancy
About the Business
Our client is a boutique and well-established building and construction consultancy based in Lane Cove.
With approximately 20 staff, the business provides a broad range of services across building consultancy, remedial construction, project management, expert witness, litigation support and cost consultancy.
A significant proportion of their work sits within the Class 2 residential sector, where they provide advice and project delivery services across building defects and complex remedial works.
Their wider project portfolio includes substantial residential apartment complexes alongside commercial, industrial and other property assets, providing their team with exposure to a varied range of technical and construction challenges.
The business has built its reputation through strong technical expertise and experienced leadership, with its senior team bringing extensive experience across building defects, forensic investigations, construction disputes, defect rectification and project management.
Just as importantly, they're a relatively small and close-knit team. Culture and personality are important to them, and they're looking for someone who is professional with clients but equally enjoys working as part of a friendly, down-to-earth team.
The Opportunity
Due to continued project activity, they're looking to appoint an experienced Remedial Project Manager to join their team.
You'll predominantly work across Class 2 residential buildings, managing remedial projects through the various stages of investigation, design, procurement and construction.
This isn't a role where you'll simply inherit a project once a contractor arrives on site.
You'll have the opportunity to become involved much earlier in the process, working alongside Building Consultants and other technical specialists to understand the underlying defects, coordinate remedial designs, develop scopes of work and manage the tender process before taking the project through construction and completion.
As a result, it's an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys understanding the technical side of a project as well as managing its commercial and construction delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing remedial and building rectification projects from early investigation through to completion
- Coordinating remedial designs, consultants and technical documentation
- Developing and reviewing scopes of work and tender documentation
- Managing tender processes, contractor evaluation and procurement
- Coordinating contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders
- Managing project programmes, budgets, risks and reporting
- Chairing client, consultant and contractor meetings
- Monitoring construction progress, quality and compliance
- Undertaking site inspections and monitoring remedial works
- Managing variations and other commercial or contractual matters
- Maintaining clear and professional communication with clients throughout delivery
- Working closely with the wider building consultancy team on technically complex defect and rectification matters
- Driving projects through practical completion and close-out
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong project delivery capability with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
You'll ideally have:
- Previous Project Management experience within remedial construction, building consultancy or a related construction environment
- Strong understanding of the construction and project delivery process
- Exposure to building defects, remedial construction or Class 2 residential projects highly regarded
- Experience managing projects through design coordination, tendering and construction
- Strong consultant and contractor management capability
- Good contractual and commercial awareness
- Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- A relevant qualification in Construction Management, Project Management, Building, Engineering or a related discipline
- Professional, proactive and solutions-focused approach
Previous experience working for a building consultancy would be advantageous; however, candidates coming from a strong construction or remedial contractor background who are looking to transition into consultancy will also be considered.
Personality and cultural fit are equally important. You'll need to communicate professionally with clients and consultants while being someone who enjoys contributing to a friendly and collaborative team.
What's in it for you?
Join an established boutique consultancy with a strong reputation in the Sydney market
Work predominantly across technically interesting Class 2 remedial projects
Manage projects across the full lifecycle rather than focusing solely on construction delivery
Broaden your exposure across building defects, design coordination and remedial methodology
Work directly alongside experienced Building Consultants and senior leaders
Gain exposure to expert witness and litigation-related matters through the wider business
High level of project ownership and client interaction
Friendly, down-to-earth and collaborative team
Long-term opportunity within a growing consultancy
If you're currently working within remedial construction, building consultancy or Project Management and are looking for a role offering broader technical exposure and genuine ownership of projects from investigation through to completion, we'd be keen to hear from you.
