Project Manager – Highway/Road Construction

Position Summary
Responsible for the overall planning, management, coordination, execution and successful delivery of highway and road construction projects from commencement to completion and handover. The Project Manager ensures that projects are delivered safely, within approved programme and budget, and in compliance with contract requirements, drawings, specifications, statutory requirements and Company policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Overall project planning, execution and completion.
• Construction and technical management of roads, highways, bridges, drainage and related infrastructure.
• Programme, progress and critical-path control.
• Management of materials, plant, equipment and manpower.
• Supervision and coordination of engineers, supervisors, surveyors, QA/QC, safety and administrative teams.
• Subcontractor and supplier management.
• Quality, safety, health and environmental compliance.
• Client, consultant, authority and stakeholder coordination.
• Contract, variation, claims and cost control.
• Risk identification, mitigation and escalation.
• Daily, weekly and monthly project reporting.
• Project completion, defect management, documentation and handover.

Proposed Requirements

Education

• Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• Professional registration/certification relevant to the position is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 10 years' relevant experience in highway, road or infrastructure construction.
• Proven experience managing major road/highway projects from commencement through completion.
• Experience managing subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, manpower, plant and materials.
• Experience in project programme, cost, quality and contractual control.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of road construction, including:

  • Earthworks and embankment
  • Subgrade, sub-base and road base
  • Asphalt/pavement works
  • Drainage and culverts
  • Bridges and ancillary works
  • Surveying and setting-out

• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and method statements.

• Knowledge of construction planning, scheduling and progress monitoring.

• Understanding of quality, safety, environmental and statutory requirements. The source specifically identifies road alignment, pavement structure, earthworks, drainage and relevant standards as part of the role.
