What they need

Safety Infrastructure Project Manager
National Program | Major Operational Environment | Safety-Critical Projects

Are you a Project Manager who thrives on delivering complex, high-impact projects where safety, technology and operational excellence come together?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant national Safety Infrastructure Program, delivering projects across a large network of operational and supply chain sites.
You'll be responsible for taking safety initiatives from concept and design through procurement, installation, commissioning and handover, ensuring every solution is delivered safely, commercially, on time and with lasting operational impact.
This is more than a traditional project management role. You'll be helping to create safer workplaces for thousands of people, while introducing innovative technology and infrastructure designed to prevent incidents before they happen.
The Opportunity
As Safety Infrastructure Project Manager, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of a national portfolio of safety-focused infrastructure and technology projects across operational sites.
The program includes initiatives such as:

  • Pedestrian and vehicle separation systems
  • Vehicle immobilisation and key retention systems
  • Loading dock safety and integration works
  • AI-enabled CCTV and hazard detection technology
  • Collision avoidance systems for forklifts and materials handling equipment
  • Integration of dock infrastructure including lighting, levellers, restraints and doors
  • Site-based safety improvements and operational controls

You'll work across multiple locations and stakeholder groups, bringing together internal teams, contractors, technology providers and operational leaders to deliver projects that make a tangible difference.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of a national safety infrastructure program, from initiation through to project close-out.
  • Manage planning, design coordination, procurement, implementation, commissioning, handover and post-project activities.
  • Deliver multiple projects concurrently across live operational environments.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, quality, safety and compliance.
  • Coordinate with IT, Safety, Health & Environment, operations, site leadership, contractors, vendors and frontline teams.
  • Oversee the installation and integration of safety infrastructure and technology solutions.
  • Manage contractors throughout installation, testing, defect rectification and operational handover.
  • Lead site readiness, communication, training and change management activities.
  • Identify and manage project risks, dependencies, interfaces and issues.
  • Provide clear governance, reporting and escalation to senior leadership.
  • Ensure solutions are embedded effectively at site level and deliver sustainable safety outcomes.

What You'll Bring
We're looking for a highly capable Project Manager who can combine strong project discipline with practical operational and safety thinking.
You'll ideally bring:

  • Proven end-to-end project management experience across initiation, planning, execution, governance and close-out.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects across operational or site-based environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence everyone from senior leadership through to frontline operational teams.
  • A strong safety mindset and the confidence to balance delivery requirements with operational risk and compliance.
  • Excellent commercial and contractor management capability.
  • Strong risk, dependency and interface management skills.
  • Experience translating technical and safety requirements into practical site-level solutions.
  • Strong communication, influencing and problem-solving skills.
  • A highly organised, delivery-focused approach with a genuine bias towards action.

Your Background
The ideal candidate will have experience delivering projects within environments such as:

  • Warehousing and logistics
  • FMCG
  • Food manufacturing
  • Distribution centres
  • Retail supply chains
  • Manufacturing
  • Industrial facilities
  • Materials handling
  • Large-scale operational environments

Particularly valuable will be experience delivering safety infrastructure, capital works, operational technology or facility upgrade projects.
You may have worked with:

  • Pedestrian barriers and traffic management systems
  • Loading dock equipment and safety systems
  • Vehicle restraint systems
  • Key retention and immobilisation systems
  • CCTV and surveillance technology
  • Forklift and materials handling safety technology
  • Collision avoidance systems
  • Operational traffic controls
  • Site safety infrastructure

Experience delivering multi-site or national rollout programs will be highly regarded.
Qualifications
Ideally, you will have:

  • Formal qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Operations, Supply Chain or a related discipline.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner and/or PMP certification is strongly preferred.
  • WHS, risk management or safety management qualifications/training would be advantageous.
  • Change management training or certification would be beneficial.
  • A current Australian driver's licence and the ability to travel to operational sites as required.

The Person
You're not someone who waits for things to happen.
You're a hands-on, commercially minded Project Manager who takes ownership, solves problems and gets projects moving.
You'll be comfortable walking a site, challenging a contractor, presenting to senior leadership and then working alongside frontline teams to make sure a new system actually works in practice.
You'll bring:

  • A strong can-do attitude
  • High personal accountability
  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine commitment to continuous improvement
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Resilience and adaptability
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • A practical, risk-based approach to decision-making
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • A natural ability to influence and bring people with you
  • Curiosity and a root-cause approach to problem solving
  • Energy, initiative and personal drive

Why This Role?
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity for a Project Manager looking to move beyond simply delivering projects and instead deliver projects that have a real and measurable impact on workplace safety.
You'll have the opportunity to work on a nationally significant program involving infrastructure, technology, operational change and safety innovation, while working with a broad range of stakeholders and sites.
If you're an experienced Project Manager with a background in safety infrastructure, capital projects, operational technology, logistics, FMCG, manufacturing or large-scale operational environments, this could be an outstanding next career move.
