Project Manager Solid Waste Management

Role & responsibilities

Plan, coordinate and execute Solid Waste Management projects in accordance with contractual requirements and project objectives.

• Manage and supervise Door-to-Door (D2D) waste collection, transportation and allied municipal waste management operations.

• Ensure effective deployment and utilization of manpower, vehicles, equipment and other project resources.

• Monitor day-to-day field operations and ensure smooth functioning of project activities.

• Coordinate regularly with Urban Local Body officials, municipal authorities, clients, contractors, supervisors and field teams.

• Establish and monitor operational targets, timelines, KPIs and project deliverables.

• Review manpower attendance, productivity, route coverage and field-level performance.

• Identify operational issues and take timely corrective measures to ensure uninterrupted project execution.

• Conduct regular field visits and inspections to assess the quality and efficiency of services.

• Ensure adherence to project SOPs, contractual conditions, municipal guidelines and applicable Solid Waste Management requirements.

• Monitor vehicle deployment, collection routes, transportation activities and overall operational efficiency.

• Coordinate with supervisors and team leaders to resolve field-level challenges.

• Prepare and review daily, weekly and monthly MIS, project reports, progress reports and management updates.

• Maintain proper project documentation and records related to manpower, operations, vehicles, complaints and performance.

• Support client/ULB meetings, project reviews, inspections and presentations.

• Track project progress against timelines and take necessary action to avoid delays.

• Manage multiple project activities simultaneously and ensure effective coordination among different teams.

• Contribute towards improving operational efficiency, service quality and overall project profitability.

• Handle escalations and ensure timely resolution of client and field-level issues.

• Ensure effective communication between the management team and project implementation teams.

About the Role

Om Sai Vision is looking for an experienced, dynamic and result-oriented Project Manager to lead and manage Solid Waste Management projects across various Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

The candidate will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, monitoring and coordination of municipal solid waste management projects, ensuring smooth field-level operations, effective manpower deployment, compliance with project requirements and timely achievement of operational targets.

The role requires a hands-on professional who can effectively coordinate between ULB officials, clients, field teams, supervisors, vendors and other stakeholders, while maintaining high standards of service delivery and project performance.

Preferred candidate profile

• Graduate/Post-Graduate degree in Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Social Sciences or a relevant field.

• Relevant experience in Solid Waste Management, Municipal Projects, Urban Local Bodies or infrastructure/service-based projects will be preferred.

• Strong knowledge of project planning, execution and monitoring.

• Experience in managing large field teams and manpower-intensive operations.

• Strong leadership, team management and decision-making abilities.

• Good understanding of field operations and municipal project execution.

• Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills.

• Strong reporting and MIS preparation skills.

• Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and other basic project management/reporting tools.

• Ability to analyse operational data and identify areas for improvement.

• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

• Willingness to travel extensively and work at project locations as required.

• Strong problem-solving approach with a result-oriented mindset.
