Project Manager – Three Waters Infrastructure

Lead water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects with Apex Civil.

We’re looking for a practical, commercially minded Project Manager with experience delivering underground infrastructure. Based in Rotorua, you’ll manage projects across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato, working closely with our directors, site teams, clients and engineers.

This role suits someone who understands pipeline and drainage construction, can lead teams confidently, and takes ownership of programme, cost, safety and quality.

About the role

You’ll manage watermain renewals, wastewater pipelines, rising mains, stormwater networks and associated civil works from project award through to completion and handover.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing construction programmes and coordinating crews, plant, materials and subcontractors.
• Working with site supervisors to plan construction methods, monitor productivity and resolve site issues.
• Coordinating pipeline installation, manholes, catchpits, culverts and associated drainage structures.
• Planning works around existing underground services, live networks, shutdowns and connections.
• Managing budgets, procurement, progress claims, variations and cost-to-complete forecasts.
• Maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, council representatives and subcontractors.
• Overseeing health and safety, environmental requirements and quality assurance.
• Ensuring testing, inspections, commissioning, as-built records and handover documentation are completed.
• Providing clear reporting on progress, financial performance and project risks.

About you

You’ll bring:

• Proven project management experience in three waters infrastructure, with a strong background in pipeline and drainage construction.
• A practical understanding of excavation, trench support, dewatering, pipe installation and reinstatement.
• Knowledge of pressure pipelines and gravity drainage, including pipe grades, levels and connections.
• Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications and contract requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness, including managing project costs and identifying variations.
• The ability to plan ahead, manage competing priorities and keep site teams working effectively.
• Clear communication and a willingness to spend time on site supporting delivery.

Experience with council infrastructure projects, PE pressure pipelines, stormwater networks and trenchless construction would be an advantage.

A relevant civil engineering or construction qualification is desirable, alongside demonstrated practical delivery experience.
