Contract: Fixed-term contract until July 2027

About the Role:

An established higher education institution is seeking an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of a strategic, institution-wide Teaching Quality Improvement Programme (TQIP).

The programme aims to strengthen how teaching quality is governed, monitored, assured and supported across the institution. Following extensive internal and external review work, the programme is moving into its next phase, focusing on establishing effective governance arrangements, coordinating delivery activity and implementing an updated action plan.

This is a high-profile opportunity to work closely with senior academic leaders, professional services teams and governance committees to deliver meaningful institutional improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain programme governance, reporting arrangements and project management controls.

  • Develop and manage project plans, milestones, dependencies and delivery schedules across multiple workstreams.

  • Coordinate programme activity across academic departments and central professional services teams.

  • Track actions, decisions, risks, issues and benefits, ensuring progress against agreed milestones.

  • Support the establishment and operation of programme boards and steering groups, including preparing committee papers, reports and senior leadership updates.

  • Coordinate discovery and analysis activities, including workshops, stakeholder consultations, process reviews, policy reviews and data analysis.

  • Consolidate findings from existing reviews, identify gaps and support the development of recommendations and improvement plans.

  • Engage with senior academic and professional services stakeholders to build consensus and drive agreed actions forward.

  • Support programme communications and change management activities.

  • Manage risks and interdependencies, ensuring alignment with wider institutional transformation and improvement initiatives.

Essential Experience:

  • Proven project or programme management experience within a higher education environment.

  • Experience supporting institution-wide change or improvement programmes.

  • Strong experience in governance, committee management and programme reporting.

  • Demonstrable experience managing complex stakeholder environments, including multiple teams and competing priorities.

  • Experience coordinating multiple workstreams and maintaining delivery plans.

  • Strong report writing skills, including the preparation of committee papers, business cases and senior-level updates.

  • Experience managing risks, issues, dependencies and project milestones.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in quality assurance, academic enhancement or regulatory compliance.

  • Knowledge of higher education governance structures and academic decision-making processes.

  • Experience supporting academic change or organisational transformation programmes.

  • Familiarity with OfS, TEF, quality assurance and student experience frameworks.

  • Experience facilitating workshops, consultations and discovery exercises.

Key Skills:

  • Strong project and programme management capabilities.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills.

  • Expertise in governance, committee support and reporting.

  • Strategic planning, organisation and coordination.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective risk and dependency management.

  • Workshop facilitation and change management skills.

  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.

The Opportunity:

  • This role would suit a proactive Project Manager with experience in higher education who can bring structure, governance and coordination to a complex institutional improvement programme. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with senior academic stakeholders, navigating university governance structures and translating recommendations into practical, deliverable actions.
