What they need

Utilities Project Manager – Civil Construction
Sydney, NSW
Our client is an established civil infrastructure contractor with a strong pipeline of projects across NSW. With continued growth within their utilities division, they are looking to appoint an experienced Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of a range of civil and utilities projects. This is a hands-on project leadership position suited to someone who is commercially astute, technically capable and confident managing projects, people and clients from mobilisation through to completion.

The Opportunity
Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for the overall performance of your projects, with a focus on safety, program, quality, commercial outcomes and client satisfaction.
You will work closely with engineers, supervisors, subcontractors and external stakeholders, providing direction across the project lifecycle and ensuring works are delivered efficiently and to specification.
The successful candidate will have a solid background in utilities and civil infrastructure, with the ability to manage multiple work fronts and make sound decisions in a fast-moving construction environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the delivery and performance of assigned projects.
  • Establishing project plans, construction programs, budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Coordinating engineering, site and construction teams to achieve project milestones.
  • Monitoring project costs, variations, claims and overall commercial performance.
  • Planning and coordinating the supply of labour, materials, plant and equipment.
  • Engaging with and managing subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients, consultants, authorities and other project stakeholders.
  • Identifying potential project issues and implementing practical solutions before they impact delivery.
  • Ensuring all works meet required safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Providing accurate project reporting, cost-to-complete forecasts and progress updates.
  • Supporting the pre-construction and tendering process for future projects.
  • Representing the organisation at project and client meetings.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to engineers and other members of the project team.

What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with Project Managers who have a proven track record in civil construction and utilities infrastructure.
Your experience is likely to include several of the following:

  • Water and sewer infrastructure.
  • Stormwater drainage, pipelines and culverts.
  • Utility relocation projects.
  • FRP works within a civil construction environment.
  • Working with NSW utility authorities and associated standards and requirements.

Beyond your technical experience, you'll need strong commercial awareness and the confidence to manage clients, subcontractors and internal teams.
You'll be someone who can take ownership, communicate effectively and remain solutions-focused when projects become challenging.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working for Sydney Water accredited subcontractor (Tier 2/3)
  • Current Australian Driver Licence.
  • White Card.

Advantageous:
