Founded in 1991, Merlo Construction is a leading specialty contractor in the construction industry, known for a commitment to quality, safety and innovation. Merlo Construction has evolved from a small concrete contractor into an organization that offers a vast scope of work including demolition, earthwork, utilities, concrete foundations, site concrete and more! This diverse range of services saves customers time, energy, and cost when evaluating several subcontractors on the same project. Our team works out of a newly built office in Brighton, providing a welcome space that supports teamwork, connection, and day-to-day collaboration.
The Earthwork Project Manager/Estimator
In collaboration with the Division Manager, the Earthwork Project Manager/Estimator identifies project targets and owns those projects from initial bids and budget through final closeout. On the estimating side, this role performs quantity take-offs from plans and specifications, including cut/fill, import/export, and site work quantities. With input from the field leadership team, the PM/Estimator builds complete estimates with labor, equipment, material costs and production rates, solicits subcontractor and supplier quotes, and prepares and submits proposals. Merlo is focused on long-term relationships, so follow up and follow through with our customer base ensures that we have the best chance to secure profitable work.
Upon project award, the PM/Estimator turns the estimate into a working budget and schedule, handles purchasing and subcontracts, tracks costs against budget, and manages change orders and progress billing.
The role coordinates daily with field supervisors to keep work on schedule, on budget, and to specification, and serves as the main point of contact for our customers (owners and general contractors).
This role also helps improve how we estimate and manage work, in line with Merlo's Value Statement: "What got us here, won't get us there!"
