What they need

Big concrete. Complex methodology. Serious delivery. This is proper heavy civils and structural infrastructure.

Rebel Recruitment is partnering with leading civil infrastructure contractors looking for proven Project Managers and Project Engineers across Auckland and the wider North Island. These are frontline delivery roles on major structures and heavy civil projects - where programme, cost, safety, quality and people all need to move in the same direction.

We are talking water and wastewater treatment plants, bridges and viaducts, marine structures, and complex reinforced-concrete infrastructure. The experience we need is firmly rooted in heavy civil and infrastructure structures delivery rather than vertical building construction.

The Role

We are looking for people who own the result. Not passengers. Not professional meeting attenders. People who can grip the programme, protect the cost, get ahead of risk and drive a project forward.

As a Project Manager, you will set the delivery rhythm, lead the team and carry genuine accountability for the project outcome - owning scope, programme, cost, risk, procurement, safety, quality and team performance from planning through construction and completion. You will work closely with project controls and commercial teams, but the programme and forecast are tools you actively use to drive decisions and corrective action.

As a Project Engineer, you will be deep in the detail without losing sight of the bigger picture - coordinating design, temporary works, methodology, sequencing, procurement, subcontractors, programme, cost and quality.

In both roles, you will lead from the front, make decisions, solve problems early and help create a site culture where strong safety and strong performance go hand in hand.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own programme, cost, quality, safety and delivery - properly own it.
  • Own and actively manage the project programme - baseline, critical path, look-aheads, progress, forecasting and recovery strategies.
  • Maintain commercial grip across budgets, forecasts, cashflow, productivity, procurement and subcontractor performance.
  • Drive delivery across complex structural and heavy civil work fronts.
  • Coordinate design, temporary works, methodology, sequencing and constructability.
  • Spot programme and delivery risks early, challenge the data, drive corrective action and keep clients, designers and site teams aligned.
  • Lead visible, practical and uncompromising health and safety performance.
  • Get the best from crews, supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and wider teams.
  • Use clear progress, productivity and project-controls reporting to make decisions - not just report history.
  • Coach and develop the people around you while keeping delivery moving.

What We're Looking For

  • Project Managers: minimum 8 years' civil infrastructure experience, with proven experience leading complex heavy civil infrastructure projects and direct ownership of programme, cost, safety, risk and delivery.
  • Project Engineers: minimum 5 years' civil infrastructure experience, with strong hands-on exposure to structures and heavy civils.
  • Strong delivery experience across water or wastewater treatment plants, bridges or viaducts, marine structures, or major reinforced-concrete civil works.
  • A track record of taking ownership of programme and cost control.
  • The drive to solve delivery issues rather than wait for someone else to step in.
  • Strong construction methodology, sequencing and constructability knowledge.
  • Commercial awareness across forecasting, variations, procurement and subcontractors.
  • Health and safety leadership that is visible, credible and backed by action.
  • A strong team player who communicates clearly, stays calm and brings people with them.
  • A relevant engineering or construction qualification, or equivalent project experience.
  • Auckland or North Island mobility, depending on the project.

Why These Roles Stand Out

  • Serious infrastructure projects
  • Strong, experienced teams that back each other and know how to deliver.
  • Genuine ownership, influence and room to make decisions.
  • Auckland and North Island opportunities with strong long-term project pipelines.
  • Competitive salary packages that recognise your experience and capability.
  • Long-term career progression with contractors that invest in good people.
  • Technically challenging work across structures, water, bridges and marine projects.
  • Confidential representation - your CV goes nowhere without your permission.

Work Rights - Read This First

Applications are welcome from candidates based in New Zealand and overseas.

To be considered, you will need to either:

  • Hold valid NZ work rights, OR
  • Provide clear evidence of NZ work visa eligibility at application stage

Statements like "eligible for sponsorship" without evidence will not be considered.

We have worked on the ground, alongside the people we recruit. We understand the pressure, the pace and the difference between someone who talks a good project and someone who can actually deliver one.

We’re not recruiters looking in from the outside. A number of our team have worked on the ground, alongside the people we now recruit. Add that to strong specialist recruitment experience, and we understand the pressure, the pace and the difference between someone who talks a good project and someone who can actually deliver one.

That means:

  • No fluff
  • No guessing
  • No pushing you into the wrong role
  • No sending your CV anywhere without your permission - full stop

Just honest conversations, straight answers and opportunities that genuinely stack up.
