Project Planning Engineer

Position Summary

The Project Planning Engineer is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules from design and procurement through fabrication, delivery, site installation, and handover. The role requires close coordination with engineering, procurement, production, and site teams to identify delays early and keep project commitments on track.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject planning and scheduling

• Develop project baseline schedules in Primavera P6, with a clear work breakdown structure (WBS), activity relationships, milestones, and critical path.
• Plan the full project sequence, including drawings and approvals, material procurement, fabrication, surface treatment, delivery, erection, inspection, and handover.
• Prepare short-term look-ahead schedules and align them with available drawings, materials, manpower, equipment, and site access.
• Review contract milestones and incorporate client and subcontractor schedules into the overall project programme.

Progress monitoring and control

• Obtain and verify progress updates from engineering, procurement, factory, and site teams.
• Update the project schedule regularly and compare actual progress with the approved baseline.
• Track planned versus actual fabrication quantities, deliveries, and site installation progress.
• Identify activities affecting the critical path and alert the Project Manager to potential delays.
• Prepare recovery schedules and assess the effect of changes in scope, approvals, resources, or delivery dates.

Coordination and reporting

• Coordinate with design, procurement, production, logistics, QA/QC, and site teams to resolve scheduling constraints.
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, two-week look-ahead plans, S-curves, progress dashboards, and meeting updates.
• Attend project meetings and clearly communicate schedule status, upcoming priorities, delays, and required decisions.
• Maintain accurate planning records, including schedule revisions, progress evidence, and reasons for delay.

Delay and change management

• Assess the schedule impact of variations, delayed approvals, material shortages, and site constraints.
• Support the preparation of extension of time (EOT) submissions and delay analysis with documented schedule records.
• Recommend practical mitigation measures and monitor agreed recovery actions.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of UAE experience in project planning within construction, structural steel, PEB, or industrial projects.
• Proven experience developing and updating schedules using Primavera P6.
• Good working knowledge of MS Excel; MS Project and Power BI are advantages.
• Understanding of engineering approvals, procurement lead times, steel fabrication, logistics, and site erection sequences.
• Experience preparing baseline programmes, progress reports, look-ahead schedules, S-curves, and recovery plans.

Preferred project exposure: Industrial warehouses, factory buildings, PEB structures, fabrication sheds, mezzanine floors, steel platforms, and other structural steel construction projects.

Work Location: In person
