What they need

Project Quantity Surveyor

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Location: Braintree, Essex - predominantly office based with travel to project sites

Salary: DOE – expected circa £60,000

JPJ Installations Ltd is an established specialist façade subcontractor delivering aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling projects across London and the South-East of England.

We are looking for an experienced Project Quantity Surveyor to join our team and take commercial responsibility for some of our largest projects.

This is a standalone QS role, typically managing 2–3 major projects at any one time, generally valued between £2m and £10m+. You will work closely with our Project Managers and Project Directors while reporting directly to the Board of Directors, with particular involvement from our Finance and Operations Directors.

The role will be predominantly focused on the commercial and contractual management of live projects, ensuring that variations and other commercial entitlements are identified and captured, contractual requirements are understood and complied with, and JPJ's commercial position is protected throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Commercial and contractual management of 2–3 major façade projects.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Project Directors to identify, value, submit and track variations and changes.
  • Review and understand subcontract terms, scope and contractual obligations.
  • Prepare and manage valuations, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
  • Ensure contractual notices and supporting records are issued and maintained appropriately.
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice to the project team.
  • Liaise directly with Main Contractors and other project stakeholders on commercial matters.
  • Attend project, commercial and client meetings as required.
  • Monitor project performance and provide commercial reporting to the Directors.
  • Assist with contractual reviews during the pre-construction and handover stages for new projects.
  • Support the preparation of contractual claims where required.

About you

We are looking for someone with:

  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant Quantity Surveying/commercial experience within construction.
  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.
  • Experience working for either a Main Contractor or specialist subcontractor.
  • Knowledge and experience of the façade sector, particularly aluminium windows, doors and curtain walling.
  • A good working knowledge of construction contracts, including JCT and/or NEC.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an ability to identify and manage contractual and financial risk.
  • Confidence working independently and liaising directly with clients and senior management.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and organisational skills.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Previous experience with Kawneer/Novastruct, Metal Technology, Technal or Schüco systems would be particularly advantageous.

The role

This would suit an experienced QS who enjoys taking ownership of their projects and wants to work closely with both operational teams and senior management.

The position is predominantly based from our Braintree, Essex office, with regular travel to project sites as required. Our larger projects are predominantly London-based, although we also deliver projects across the South and East of England.

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications, expected to be circa £60,000 per annum.

Pay: £50,000.00-£70,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Braintree CM7 2SD: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Experience:

  • quantity surveying: 2 years (preferred)

Work authorisation:

  • United Kingdom (required)

Work Location: In person
