Project Scheduler, Construction (Public Works / K-12)
Full-time, on-site, Los Angeles, CA |
About the role
Amtec is partnering with a large public school district in Los Angeles to hire a Project Scheduler. This is an owner-side position. You will review contractor schedules, track progress, and help the district’s project team decide whether time-extension requests are justified.
What you’ll do
- Read architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and civil drawings to understand project scope.
- Review contractor Primavera P6 baseline schedules for missing scope, missing logic or milestones, critical path, and cost loading, and write comments using the owner’s standard review templates.
- Review monthly P6 schedule updates and document milestone slippage, critical path slippage, and overall schedule performance.
- Perform QA/QC on contractor schedule submittals for conformance with the contract.
- Build earned value curves from the owner’s template guidelines, and track KPIs from P6 and Excel.
- Produce contract variance reports with root causes, plus schedule recovery recommendations.
- Perform Time Impact Analysis using the Windows Analysis method, using contemporaneous and/or forensic schedule data, with a detailed written report.
- Use the drawings and contract terms to determine whether work is in or out of scope and whether time extensions are compensable or non-compensable.
- Develop or review preliminary construction schedules based on plans and specifications.
- Update program and master schedules on a regular basis, and ensure consistent use of standard codes, layouts, and reports to protect data integrity.
- Monitor monthly construction progress, help identify problem areas and schedule impacts, and look for opportunities to advance the schedule.
- Communicate schedule and progress issues to the project team in regular meetings, and prepare reports for senior management.
- Visit construction sites and attend meetings as needed to verify contractors’ monthly progress.
Requirements
- 6 years of full-time, paid construction scheduling experience with an owner or general contractor. Experience on educational facilities or public works projects is preferred.
- Proficiency in the latest version of Primavera P6 (v19) and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree in any field also qualifies with 2 additional years of construction scheduling experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with project teams and department staff.
- Understanding of cost engineering, scheduling, and schedule forensics.
Benefits
- 80 hours of vacation and 40 hours of sick time
- 13 paid holidays
- Medical, vision, and dental premiums covered at 100%, up to $500 per month
- Up to $1,000 per year for license renewals and education
- 401(k) with a 100% employer match up to 4%, vested immediately
- Participation in industry events
