What they need
Community Enhancement Strategies (CES) is looking for a Project Support Assistant to join our growing team. This is an early career opportunity for someone who enjoys writing, research, design and problem-solving.
This is an opportunity to build a career while doing meaningful work with real-world impact. If you’re looking for work you can feel good about and want to be part of a small, growing, founder-led company- this role might be for you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Support Assistant role combines research, writing, graphic design, client communication and project support. You’ll work with complex subject matter and information that can be difficult to find, organize or interpret. Your role will be to research available information, ask good questions, collaborate with subject matter experts and help turn complex information into clear, useful and engaging deliverables.
This is a great opportunity for someone with academic or professional experience in research, writing, communications, graphic design or a related field. Many projects involve brainstorming, testing ideas and finding creative ways to communicate information, so you should be comfortable taking creative risks and learning through feedback.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
RESEARCH, WRITING & REPORT DEVELOPMENT
- Research communities and clients using available data, reports, plans, public records and other sources.
- Review, organize and interpret complex or hard-to-find information.
- Contribute to official reports, community development plans, emergency planning documents and other technical deliverables.
- Draft and edit content for reports, proposals, quotes, presentations, surveys and other client materials.
- Work collaboratively with field staff, subject matter experts and company leadership to develop accurate and meaningful deliverables.
COMMUNICATIONS & DESIGN
- Create posters, presentations, surveys and other visual materials with limited creative direction.
- Apply strong copywriting and editing skills to make complex information clear, engaging and appropriate for its intended audience.
- Use graphic design tools to develop polished, professional materials based on project requirements and examples.
- Support basic photo and video editing as required.
CLIENT & PROJECT SUPPORT
- Build positive working relationships with clients and contribute to a welcoming, professional client experience.
- Participate in meetings, brainstorming sessions and project discussions.
- Provide occasional support with community engagement activities, including surveys, interviews and meeting notes.
- Manage competing priorities and keep work moving while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
WHO WILL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE
You’re a strong writer with a creative eye, genuine curiosity and excellent organizational skills. You’re comfortable managing competing priorities, working through ambiguity and collaborating with others to turn ideas into polished, useful work.
The ideal candidate will be open to feedback, willing to ask questions and comfortable experimenting with new ideas. Some of our best work starts with brainstorming, testing an idea and trying something that hasn’t been done before.

- Experience with graphic design and copywriting.
- Functional knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) required.
- Exceptional organization and time management skills.

EDUCATION & ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE
- Experience working with First Nations communities or knowledge of First Nations community structures, priorities and perspectives is an asset.
- Post-secondary education or relevant academic experience in communications, writing, graphic design, community development, environmental studies, social sciences or a related field is an asset.

- This position is based in our Winnipeg office and is primarily office-based.
- The role involves extended periods of computer work, writing, research and design, as well as virtual and in-person meetings and client communication.
