Job Summary

The Propagator is responsible for the successful propagation and early-stage development of plants through methods such as seed sowing, cuttings, division, grafting, and other propagation techniques. The role ensures that healthy, vigorous, and uniform plants are produced according to production schedules and quality standards.

The Propagator maintains propagation areas, monitors plant health and environmental conditions, and follows proper sanitation and horticultural practices to minimize disease and losses.

Key Responsibilities

• Propagate plants through seeds, cuttings, division, grafting, layering, or other appropriate methods.
• Prepare propagation materials, growing media, trays, pots, and containers.
• Sow seeds and take, prepare, and plant cuttings according to established procedures.
• Monitor germination, rooting, and early plant development.
• Maintain appropriate watering, temperature, humidity, light, and ventilation levels in propagation areas.
• Inspect plants regularly for pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and other problems.
• Remove weak, damaged, diseased, or poorly developed plants when necessary.
• Apply fertilizers, biological controls, and approved crop protection products as instructed.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of propagation facilities, tools, equipment, benches, and work areas.
• Label and record propagated plants, varieties, quantities, dates, and production batches accurately.
• Transplant and transfer rooted plants or seedlings to the next stage of production.
• Maintain adequate stock of propagation materials and report shortages or equipment issues.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures and proper handling of chemicals and equipment.
• Assist with general nursery, greenhouse, or farm activities as required.
• Meet daily and weekly propagation targets while maintaining plant quality.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Graduate of Agriculture or equivalent
• Has a background in plant propagation; in plant maintenance is an advantage
• Able to perform tasks, and work in greenhouse or outdoor conditions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
