Property Accountant

We are hiring Property Accountants to support our U.S.-based real estate and property management team. This is a full-time, long-term contractor position , working Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:30 PM Pacific Time .

Each Property Accountant will be responsible for an assigned portfolio of approximately 45–55 primarily smaller single-family and multifamily properties, totaling approximately 200–500 units , with centralized AP/AR support. The role will focus on property-level month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations and overall accounting oversight for the assigned portfolio, including reconciliation of approximately 20–30 bank accounts monthly .

This is not primarily a transactional bookkeeping or AP/AR position. We are looking for someone who understands the full accounting cycle for a property portfolio, can independently identify and resolve discrepancies, and is comfortable partnering directly with Property Managers to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the accounting and monthly close process for an assigned portfolio of approximately 45–55 properties / 200–500 units
• Prepare and review monthly property-level financial statements and reporting packages
• Reconcile approximately 20–30 bank accounts monthly , researching and resolving discrepancies as needed
• Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, reclassifications and other month-end adjustments
• Perform balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations and ensure accounts are accurate and properly supported
• Review property financials for unusual activity, missing information or accounting inconsistencies and proactively resolve issues
• Support budget-to-actual and variance analysis
• Coordinate with centralized AP/AR teams and review activity affecting assigned properties
• Work directly with Property Managers to research property-level accounting questions and obtain information needed for close
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation across the assigned portfolio
• Help ensure monthly deadlines and reporting requirements are consistently met

What We’re Looking For

• Direct property management accounting experience required
• 3+ years of accounting experience , including at least 1 year of direct property accounting experience
• Strong understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting and month-end close
• Hands-on experience with Yardi or AppFolio strongly preferred
• Experience identifying, researching and resolving accounting discrepancies — not simply processing transactions
• Experience managing accounting across a multi-property portfolio
• Experience supporting U.S.-based real estate or property management companies preferred
• Comfortable communicating and working directly with Property Managers and other operational teams
• Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail
• Strong spoken and written English
• Organized, proactive and able to independently manage recurring monthly deadlines across multiple properties
