Job Title: Property Accountant – Multifamily Real Estate

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to oversee the accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of multifamily residential properties. This individual will be responsible for monthly financial close, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, budget variance analysis, and collaboration with property management teams to ensure accurate reporting and strong financial performance.

The ideal candidate has experience in real estate or property management accounting, strong analytical skills, and an understanding of the key financial drivers of multifamily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage monthly accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of multifamily properties.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close.
• Review property-level income and expenses and analyze budget-to-actual variances.
• Monitor key operating metrics, including rental income, occupancy, delinquency, concessions, and operating expenses.
• Partner with property managers to investigate variances, resolve accounting issues, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Review accounts payable coding, invoice allocations, and expense classifications.
• Assist with annual budgets, cash flow projections, capital expenditure tracking, and lender reporting.
• Maintain compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and audit requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in multifamily real estate or property management.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with property management systems such as RentManager.
• Understanding of property-level budgeting, variance analysis, and net operating income (NOI).
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to partner with property management and corporate finance teams.

Compensation and Benefits: Competitive compensation based on experience, benefits package, paid time off, and professional growth opportunities.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
