Join Northern Territory Government NT WorkSafe. Make your mark in a newly established role, enjoying the autonomy of a specialist practice while being supported by a close-knit team.

Why you’ll love this role:

  • Autonomy with support in a specialist legal team.
  • Work-life balance, with flexible government conditions.
  • High-impact prosecutions that improve worker safety outcomes across the Territory.
  • Newly created role with opportunity to shape the position.

Our agency, NT WorkSafe is seeking a Prosecutor to deliver prosecution services on behalf of the Work Health Authority, Electrical Safety Regulator and Dangerous Goods Competent Authority.

Working within a small, high-performing investigations and prosecutions team, you'll manage matters from advice through to prosecution, helping ensure compliance with workplace health and safety legislation across the Northern Territory.

Unlike many traditional prosecution roles, this position offers greater autonomy, direct stakeholder engagement and the opportunity to build a specialist practice in workplace safety law whilst maintaining a balanced workload.

An ordinary week may see you:

  • Attending court mentions, co-ordinating contested summary prosecutions to hearing across the NT, instructing senior counsel, and negotiating pleas.
  • Providing legal advice to investigators, regulators and senior management regarding prosecution matters and enforcement actions
  • Reviewing evidence, preparing briefs and collaborating with investigators to build prosecution cases
  • Liaising with defence counsel, judiciary, victims and witnesses throughout court proceedings
  • Travelling to regional locations, including Alice Springs, when required

Thinking About a Change?

Whether you're currently working in a DPP office, Police Prosecution, private criminal practice or another prosecution environment, this role offers the opportunity to continue advocacy and prosecution work while enjoying greater balance, autonomy and the unique lifestyle benefits of the Northern Territory. Applicants considering relocation are welcome.

Essential Criteria:

  • Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner and eligibility to hold a practising certificate in the Northern Territory
  • Experience in criminal law, evidence, practice and procedure
  • Demonstrated experience conducting contested summary hearings, committals and appeals
  • Strong advocacy, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Sound legal research, analytical and written communication skills

Highly regarded:

  • Experience in regulatory, compliance or enforcement-related prosecutions
  • Experience working closely with investigators and regulatory agencies
