Be part of something bigger. Raise standards every day — where detail, data and discipline collide.

We are the heartbeat of the city, a club with bold ambitions on a global stage and deep roots in our community. If you’re driven to raise the bar, make an impact and play your part in a high-performance environment, you’ll find the platform, the people and the pride to do your best work here.

We work as One Club, with excellence, integrity, accountability and relentless ambition at the heart of everything we do.

We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable football professional to help us nurture talent and support performance on and off the pitch. This role plays an important part in delivering high standards, supporting player development, and helping us create the best possible environment for success across the Club.

About the role

We are building an environment where talented players can thrive, develop and successfully navigate the critical transitions that shape elite careers. You will play a key role in supporting high-potential players through important stages of their development journey.

What you’ll do

Working within our Psychology Department, you will lead psychologically informed approaches to talent management and player transitions, ensuring players receive exceptional support during some of the most significant moments of their careers. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, coaches, recruitment staff and external clubs to create seamless player experiences that drive positive outcomes both on and off the pitch.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading psychology practice relating to talent management and player transitions.
  • Supporting high-potential players preparing for key career transitions.
  • Developing and implementing effective communication and handover processes with clubs.
  • Monitoring player integration, performance and wellbeing across transition environments.
  • Supporting recruitment through psychological and behavioural assessment processes.
  • Developing psychological resources to enhance player development and wellbeing.
  • Collaborating with internal and external experts to ensure evidence-based practice.
  • Contributing to wider psychology and wellbeing projects across the Club.

What you’ll bring

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Psychology, Sports Psychology or a related discipline.
  • Accreditation with the British Psychological Society (BPS) or British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).
  • HCPC registration.
  • Experience delivering psychology programmes within elite or professional sporting environments.
  • Experience developing and implementing psychological assessment processes.
  • Strong understanding of athlete performance, wellbeing and development.
  • Experience translating evidence-based research into practical interventions.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and the ability to work across diverse and multicultural environments.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including working with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong IT skills and confidence using data and performance information to inform practice.

The team

We are not just another psychology team. Our approach is holistic where we cultivate resilience, emotional agility and nurture a culture of growth, where individuals not only perform at their peak, but also navigate the mental demands that accompany elite football.

Join us and be part of a team that empowers individuals to reach their full potential. This is your chance to work in a team where psychology and well-being is not just valued but celebrated.

United As One

We’re committed to building an inclusive, high-performance culture where everyone feels safe, respected and able to thrive. Equality, diversity and inclusion are central to who we are, and we believe the diversity of our people is one of our greatest strengths.

We work as One Club, reflecting the communities we serve, acting with integrity, and creating an environment where everyone can be their authentic self and achieve their full potential.

Safeguarding

We’re committed to creating an environment where everyone is safe, heard, valued and able to thrive. Safeguarding and welfare are central to the way we work, and we expect everyone to play their part in doing the right thing and upholding the highest standards of care.
