About LIV Recovery Women and Children’s Home
LIV Recovery Women and Children’s Home is a mission-driven residential program creating a safe, nurturing, and person-centered environment where women and children can heal, strengthen family relationships, and build lasting stability. Our work is grounded in dignity, accountability, trauma-informed care, and compassionate support.
Job Summary
We are seeking a caring and thoughtful Play Therapist to join our supportive team. In this role, you will provide developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed play therapy for children living in the home and partner with their mothers and caregivers to support healing, attachment, emotional regulation, and family stability.
Why This Role Matters
Children often communicate their experiences through play. The Play Therapist creates a consistent, welcoming space where children can express themselves, build coping skills, and strengthen a sense of safety. Through ethical clinical care, caregiver partnership, and respectful collaboration, this role also helps mothers understand and respond to their children’s needs during recovery and transition.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group play therapy using developmentally appropriate, child-centered, and trauma-informed approaches
- Complete clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, treatment plans, and ongoing reviews that reflect each child’s strengths, needs, culture, developmental stage, and lived experience
- Use evidence-based interventions such as child-centered play therapy, expressive arts, therapeutic games, caregiver-child sessions, cognitive behavioral strategies, and other appropriate clinical practices
- Support children in building emotional awareness, coping skills, resilience, healthy attachment, and age-appropriate communication
- Partner with mothers and caregivers through consultation, psychoeducation, family sessions, and practical strategies that reinforce progress outside therapy
- Respond appropriately to behavioral health concerns, safety needs, and crises in coordination with the program team and applicable procedures
- Collaborate with residential staff, schools, health care providers, community partners, and natural supports to coordinate child- and family-centered care
- Maintain a safe, organized, and therapeutically appropriate play space and manage materials in accordance with infection-control and safety practices
- Maintain accurate, timely, and respectful documentation in compliance with HIPAA, mandated-reporting obligations, and clinical record requirements
- Participate in case consultation, team collaboration, quality improvement, and ongoing professional development
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in social work, psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution
- Current Missouri licensure or eligibility for licensure as an LCSW, LPC, LMFT, psychologist, or equivalent clinical credential
- Training and supervised experience in play therapy required; Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential or active progress toward the credential preferred
- Experience providing clinical services to children and families affected by trauma, housing instability, substance use, family disruption, grief, or other significant life challenges
- Knowledge of child development, attachment, trauma responses, family systems, crisis support, treatment planning, clinical documentation, and ICD coding
- Ability to engage mothers and caregivers with empathy, cultural humility, and a strengths-based approach
- Understanding of mandated-reporting responsibilities, professional boundaries, confidentiality, and safety practices in a residential setting
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; LIV Recovery is unable to provide employment visa sponsorship at this time
- Strong communication skills and a warm, collaborative approach that helps children and families feel respected, heard, and supported
