Public Works Estimator

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Public Works Estimator to join our team and drive the success of our municipal and infrastructure projects. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a wide range of public works projects, including waterproofing, roofing and other civil infrastructure. Your expertise will help ensure project feasibility, optimize budgets, and foster strong relationships with clients and subcontractors. Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings, technical specifications, and project plans to accurately interpret scope of work and material requirements.
• Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and other construction management tools to develop detailed cost estimates.
• Analyze project bids, negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing, and manage bid submissions.
• Prepare comprehensive budgets by estimating labor, materials, equipment costs, and indirect expenses for public works projects.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure estimates align with project goals and contractual obligations.
• Conduct site visits to gather on-the-ground insights that influence accurate cost estimation and project planning.
• Monitor project costs throughout the bidding process and during project execution to support effective cost control and budget management.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the public works or heavy civil construction industry.
• Strong proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, Houzz Pro, Bid Platform or similar platforms.
• Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading, construction drawing review, and interpreting technical drawings.
• Demonstrated ability in cost management, material cost estimating, pricing strategies, and estimating construction project budgets.
• Excellent negotiation skills with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to secure favorable terms.
• Familiarity with construction management software including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel spreadsheets), contracts review, and project management tools.
• Construction site experience combined with a solid understanding of construction industry standards and safety protocols.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Pay: $52,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
