Public Works Tech I

General Statement of Duties:

• Performs responsible semi-skilled work in a variety of installation, construction, and maintenance to include repair projects
• Operates backhoe, track hoe, dump truck, industrial lawn mowers and other heavy equipment (including all types of equipment assigned by supervisor)
• Performs various street maintenance duties
• Works on asphalt with penetration crews performing such jobs as breaking pavement and pouring asphalt
• Installs water lines, meters, and fire hydrants along with repairing leaks in water lines; must be able to locate lines for necessary repairs
• Maintains well houses and reads well meters
• Performs a variety of grounds maintenance work including park maintenance
• Repairs and maintains road signs, lights, and ditches
• Assists with snow and ice removal control
• Assembles chairs and office furniture
• Performs related tasks assigned by supervisor

Training and Experience Requirements:

• Possession of an appropriate commercial driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina or be able to obtain within the timeframe established by the Director of Public Works.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor requiring exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions along with being an effective communicator with co-workers; being a team-player is a must.

Pay: $43,013.00 - $53,766.00 per year
