Punching Machine Operator

Purpose

The Punching Machine Operator is responsible for operating punching/press equipment safely and efficiently to cut, shape and perforate material into products that meet specified dimensions, quality and output requirements. This role is central to keeping the production line running continuously, while guiding the Punching Helper in day-to-day support duties.

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Operation & Process Control

• Inspect and set up the punching machine before each production run, including die, punch and stroke/pressure settings.
• Verify material specifications and production parameters prior to startup.
• Load and feed sheet material and control product quality.
• Support tooling and die changeovers.
• Monitor stroke rate, pressure, alignment and throughput throughout the punching process.

2. Production Monitoring, Quality & Reporting

• Record output, rejects and downtime.
• Identify abnormalities such as die wear, misalignment or burring and escalate faults promptly.
• Meet shift production targets.
• Inspect punched product for dimensional accuracy, hole placement, burrs and defects.
• Adjust machine settings as needed to maintain product quality within approved tolerances.
• Coordinate with the QA/Laboratory Supervisor on quality checks and non-conforming material.

3. Maintenance & Housekeeping

• Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of the punching machine and dies.
• Conserve materials and minimize scrap and waste.

4. Safety & Compliance

• Follow SOPs, PPE requirements and housekeeping standards.
• Support achievement of shift output and safety targets.

Knowledge

• OND, technical diploma or trade qualification in mechanical, industrial or production engineering.
• Machine-operation, industrial safety or technical trade certification preferred.
• 3+ years operating punching/press machines or comparable metal fabrication equipment.
• Sheet metal fabrication, press work, or related manufacturing background.

Pay: ₦70,000.00 - ₦80,000.00 per month
