Purchase Manager

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to join an established family run company in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Your main goal is to secure a cost-effective, high-quality and uninterrupted supply of goods to keep our production lines running smoothly.

You will take charge of our day-to-day procurement activities typically sourcing Castings (Ferrous/Non-Ferrous), Engineering Bar and Plate, Electrical lamination stacks and associated products, laser/pressed components and indirect services.

Manage supplier relationships and drive cost-reduction strategies while keeping strict quality and delivery standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement cost-effective purchasing by identifying continuous improvement initiatives and cost-down opportunities.
• Supplier Management: Build strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiate commercial contracts, negotiate best-value pricing and lead times with UK and global suppliers combined with overseas travel where appropriate.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Production, Technical/Engineering and Quality Control departments to support Existing and New Product Introduction.
• Risk & Inventory Control: Monitor market trends, mitigate supply chain risks, and maintain optimal inventory levels using MRP system.
• Compliance: Ensure all purchasing operations comply with company policies, HMRC/customs legislation and ethical sourcing standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager in manufacturing preferably with an engineering background.
• Strong negotiation and analytical management skills.
• Proficiency with MRP and stock management systems.

· CIPS qualification (or working towards MCIPS) is an advantage.
