Job Overview

The Purchaser will oversee end-to-end sourcing, price negotiation, and procurement for materials, tools, equipment, and services. This role demands a versatile purchasing professional capable of handling multi-sector needs—ranging from building materials for residential and commercial structures to heavy-duty vehicle parts and retail station operational supplies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Residential & Commercial Construction Procurement

  • Source, negotiate, and procure construction materials (structural, architectural, MEP, finishing materials, and heavy equipment rentals) for residential and commercial building projects.
  • Read and interpret Bill of Quantities (BOQ), material specifications, and architectural/engineering requisitions.
  • Manage delivery schedules and site logistics to ensure materials reach project sites on time, avoiding costly construction downtime.
  • Canvass competitive rates from hardware suppliers, fabricators, and specialized subcontractors.

2. Petroleum Retail & Station Maintenance

  • Procure equipment, fixtures, safety gear, Point-of-Sale (POS) consumables, and operational supplies for gas station retail outlets.
  • Coordinate station repair, maintenance, and upgrade requisitions with site supervisors.

3. Fuel Hauling & Fleet Maintenance

  • Purchase replacement spare parts, tires, lubricants, and tools for heavy fuel tankers and transport fleets.
  • Liaise with head mechanic and maintenance officer to confirm precise technical specifications for automotive and heavy-duty parts.

4. Supplier & Vendor Management

  • Build, evaluate, and maintain a robust database of accredited vendors, trade suppliers, and contractors.
  • Negotiate pricing, credit terms, warranties, and bulk discounts to maximize cost efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
  • Conduct site visits or supplier audits when necessary to verify material quality before dispatch.

5. Administrative & Compliance

  • Prepare, issue, and track Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with company approval workflows.
  • Reconcile POs with delivery receipts, invoices, and material acceptance reports for accounting authorization.
  • Enforce compliance with internal budget constraints and relevant building/petroleum industry regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 2–4 years of hands-on purchasing experience, with strong preference given to candidates from construction (residential/commercial), hardware distribution, or logistics/petroleum backgrounds.

  • Knowledge:

  • Strong familiarity with building and finishing materials, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) supplies, and heavy-equipment parts.

  • Deep understanding of purchasing workflows, contract negotiation, and inventory control.

  • Skills:

  • Proven negotiation and canvassing skills with a track record of cost savings.

  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word)

  • Ability to prioritize urgent material requests from multiple active project sites simultaneously.

  • Attributes: High integrity, sharp attention to detail, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
