Purchaser - Mechanical & Electrical

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and organised Purchaser to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing materials and equipment required for site jobs, monitoring stock levels and ensuring materials are available when needed.

This role would suit someone with a mechanical and/or electrical background, ideally with knowledge of pipework and associated materials. We are looking for someone who can use their technical knowledge to source the correct materials, work effectively with colleagues and suppliers, and contribute to improve the way the business operates.

Key Responsibilities

• Purchasing materials, equipment and components required for site jobs.
• Preparing and issuing purchase orders to suppliers, ensuring orders are accurate and align with site requirements.
• Liaising with suppliers to obtain the best prices, check availability and arrange deliveries.
• Ensuring materials are ordered in good time to meet project requirements.
• Monitoring and maintaining accurate stock levels within the yard.
• Identifying when stock needs replenishing and helping to keep stock organised.
• Working closely with site teams and colleagues to understand material requirements.
• Using Excel and computer systems to maintain purchasing records, stock information and order details.
• Supporting other areas of the business when required.
• Contributing ideas and suggestions to improve purchasing, stock control and general business operations.

Skills and Experience

Essential / Preferred:

• A background in mechanical and/or electrical engineering.
• Knowledge of pipework, fittings, valves and associated materials.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple orders and priorities.
• Good communication skills when dealing with suppliers and colleagues.
• A proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn, take on additional responsibilities and get involved in other aspects of the business.

Desirable:

• Previous purchasing or procurement experience.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel and general computer systems.
• Experience with stock control and ordering materials for engineering or site-based projects.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, uses their initiative and has a practical understanding of engineering materials. The right person will be reliable, adaptable and willing to contribute to the wider business, bringing forward ideas and suggestions rather than simply completing day-to-day tasks.

Previous purchasing experience would be beneficial, but a strong mechanical or electrical background, particularly with pipework knowledge, would also be valuable.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30

Competitive salary dependant on experience.
